Good fit academically, and we have GT and UGA on the schedule while he'd be here!

From the Master List thread:

Here we go and a very welcome development. Two programs that Arrington has expressed great interest in on are Mich/ND. He has started following Cooks and Booker on twitter. All parties have been in contact over the last few days. Those have gone well and it looks like he'll OV to South Bend on Jan. 24h.

I posted this in the other thread:

Top Georgia recruit back on free agency market

One of the state’s top 30 college football prospects who you’ve probably heard almost nothing about is back on the free-agent market three weeks away from signing day.

You probably haven’t heard a lot about Arrington Farrar, a 4-star safety from Woodward Academy, because he had been committed to Stanford since his sophomore year.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder backed off his pledge this week after struggling to get admitted to Stanford (for the record, Farrar is an exceptional student with a 3.5 GPA and 26 ACT score).

What’s next for Farrar? “I’m not ready to talk about everything yet,” Farrar told the AJC on Monday. He was obviously still processing the news about Stanford.

Some possible suitors for Farrar are Michigan, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech, along with possibly Penn State and Wisconsin. Coaches from a few of those schools are expected to stop by Woodward this week to see Farrar.

What about Georgia Tech? Farrar gets along well with Georgia Tech assistant Buzz Preston, and he has expressed interest in the past in Aeronautical Engineering. The only thing with the Yellow Jackets is that they might be tight on spots, with scholarship offers already promised to upcoming visitors.

Farrar is rated as the state’s No. 27 overall prospect and wants to go to a college that stresses academics. He is projected to play strong safety or outside linebacker at the next level.

Hope the staff pushes hard for this kid. Looking for strong academics and has the grades. Would be a massive get at safety (or even LB).

Funny you mention that. I think his long term position could very well end up being OLB. Especially in BVG's system where he seems to like jumbo safeties at the SAM LB spot.

So per Lorenz, Harbaugh spoke with Arrington on the phone and mentioned that they have guys higher on the board than him. He was pretty disappointed and its now unclear whether he'll visit UM this weekend. Obviously, Lorenz thinks he was ready to commit on the visit.

What exactly is keeping him from being admitted to Stanford? I was under the impression that Notre Dame was slightly more difficult to get admitted to. Mainly because of the language requirement, while also keeping the same GPA and test score requirements as places like Stanford.

What makes anyone think he will be admitted to ND if he can't get into Stanford?

Okay, what is the deal with the language requirement. I remember going to a public school in Georgia and we were required to have 2 full years of foreign language classes.

Michigan is slow playing a four star out of a talent rich state when they only have six commits...bold move cotton, lets see how it works out.

Exactly? Only Farrar and SU know and neither is talking.

Over the past 20 years SU has been more rigid on the Test Score than ND has. I don't know the precise number but recall a number of SU verbals that chose other schools after they didn't get a 1000 SAT (2 part) or equivalent ACT. ND has taken substantially lower test scores over that same period.

His 26 ACT should give him 150-200 SAT equivalent points to spare. Keep in mind the ACT is an average score of 4 areas of knowledge, he MAY have scored extremely low in one area.

It could also be individual coursework, it can vary widely from high school to high school. SU may have decided a course or courses may not meet their standards although the football factories would accept it.

He MIGHT have been told to retake a class or TEST to improve his score and chosen not to OR the class might not be available at his HS on a timely basis.

Carson Palmer and the WR Terrell both were told by ND Admissions to improve a test score or coursework and both refused to do so. One made All-American at USC; the other at Michigan.

Well then, that explains that...Thanks

My impression is that it is slightly harder to get in the door at Stanford, in terms of applications and test scores. Not sure if they have the language requirement.

ND, on the other hand, has the best reputation for actually educating students. They seem intent on making sure the kid is getting a "normal" ND education, at least to some extent.

What a crazy development. A smart 4 star kid is locked into his favorite for over a year only to be told no thanks. He's ready to visit his second favorite and commit on the spot when he's told he's not a priority.

Let's hope he's a little freaked out by this, gets worried and commits on his visit.

Anyone know the reason for not extending an offer yet? Hopefully it isn't whatever reason prevented him from attending Stanford.

I will say I feel bad for the kid. I just watched his Scout Semper Fi Bowl interview. He was 100% without a doubt ready for Stanford. As a sophomore he wanted offers from 2 schools, Stanford and another. Stanford offered and it was a no brainer. I hope he finds the right place again for him.

i fear these late offers have similar ending to the last two cycles where we've tried to get in on safeties late

Kelly has gotten his fair share of later offers. This kid has a good profile for ND, not knowing anything about him personally.
