That's just not true. BK has gotten PLENTY of kids that would be considered academic risks...same as when Lou Holtz was here, per several recruiting reporters. The problem is that many haven't been able to stay at ND...guys like Lynch, Kinlaw, Neal, Ferguson, etc.

My understanding is he has gotten more kids in than any other coach since Lou. Lou might have been able to get in 1 or 2 more kids though.

He can qualify LOTS of places. The ND staff encouraged him to go on other OV's just in case, which is an indication that they have known for quite awhile that it was going to be tough to get him in.

I've already counted him as gone, put it that way.

I like his film, but I think he's better suited for CB rather than S. He breaks extremely well. I'd say if we land him, put him at CB and move Butler to S. Butler doesn't break as well. Still need to land Justin Reid, regardless.

You're not aware because no one ever uses Prop 48 anymore, and haven't since 1996. Prop 16 came along in 1996 and superseded 48. So that's one place you are wrong, right off the bat.

Why has Holy Cross never put together a football team? They have other sports, and it would be a totally legitimate way for Notre Dame to "grey shirt" certain players in the same way other schools do in their over signing efforts. It would open up our pool of possible recruits and give many young men an opportunity to earn their way into the NCAA requirements and the possibly of getting into Notre Dame.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that all grey shirting is a practice I agree with, but what would be wrong with this? If a kid wants to willingly work their way into Notre Dame, then I say Godspeed, young man.

I've been banging on this drum for years. It makes an incredible amount of sense, you could basically field a farm team and would be able to control the academics enough to facilitate the transfer in.

The pricetag and logistics are probably the biggest impediment.

Don't even want to watch. It'll just make me sad.

Although, from McKinney himself to Steve Hare he seems to think (or is at least publicly stating) that he is all set for ND. Told Steve he was in the top 10 in his class and that he is good to go to ND from a credits perspective. Test scores seem to be the issue. Who knows, and we will have to wait and see, but maybe there is a glimmer of hope that his apparent high standing GPA wise could offset that and he could be given the benefit of the doubt.

2. TJ said the hangup is his relatively low test score as compared to his academic standing at his HS. Said Cooks has an impending visit coming up with Prentice and his academic advisors.

I really want to feel optimistic about this, but history is so against us. Really hope this works out. Such a position of need and this kid would likely be way better off attending ND than anywhere else he would end up at this point.

If I'm Kelly, I'm over at HC right now, petitioning the start of a college football team. I guess the main issue is that there just isn't a big enough student base. It's a school of only around 500-600 students, and it's not like there would be a ton of athletes to pick and choose from. These are primarily guys who have met clearing house standards, but aren't eligible for ND. The choice then is obvious, go to a really small JUCO for 2 years and then transfer into to ND, or go to a 4-year major school like Texas, Alabama, Ohio State and make a name for yourself off the bat. Just seems like the pool for the players we try to get here is so small, compared to those who just need to met clearing house standards.

It is different that's for sure. Another poster on there said his daughter took her test in the middle of December and got the results back at the beginning of the month,

So if he took it Dec. 13th he would receive his scores between Dec. 22 and Feb. 6th.

Yes, but Prop 16 is just a stricter version of Prop 48. The SAT requirements were made easier base on SES, but the overall rule is tougher. So, your condescension aside; who are the student athletes like Tony Rice et al who have had to sit a year to improve their eligibility?
