A Giants fan, I was throwing a tantrum when they passed on Martin, but since Cruz went down, ODB has been amazing. They still need anchors on the O line, but I can't complain about the pick anymore.

@BruceFeldmanCFB: A little surprised Odell Beckham Jr didn't make the PRo Bowl. Only 2 WRs averaging more yards per game than him.

Really not sure how he didn't make it. I too was upset they passed on Martin and ODB kept getting hurt but I'm long past being upset. Him, Cruz, and please God wake Randle up are a dangerous trio. Add in Larry Donnell and it isn't all that bad. They need OL badly though. They also need LBs badly too.

He's good, yet somehow a certain poster was convinced the o-line would actually be better.

And he'll still get slaughtered in the ROTY voting because this:

is way sexier than this:

Sad but true. Beckham Jr is a great player with an insanely bright future without a doubt and I wont be upset when he wins ROTY but ZMart definitely deserves more credit than he'll get and I'm sure he wont win ROTY even tho he probably deserves it...just because he's an O-lineman and not a skill position player. Oh well.

I get that skill players are more appreciated, but ODB is a freak, and therefore a bad example to use in that argument. Cant really go wrong there.

I don't mind him winning, I just don't think it'll be as close as Martin deserves.

Yup. Both Beckham and Martin are great and deserving of the award. If Martin's success could somehow be translated into receiving statistics and his pancake blocks could look as amazing as that one handed grab then it might just be a toss up in the ROTY voting but we know Odell will win the award.

Just like JJ Watt should win the MVP this year by a landslide but probably wont and if he does win it will be extremely tight. Cuz he's a defensive player and more importantly...not a QB.

The Heisman and NFL MVP are a joke to me. Might as well just be called the best QB award.

Off topic, but did anyone else see that JJ Watt was an all-pro first team DE and an all-pro second team DT?

I think he's the "best player," but you don't get my MVP vote unless you at least make the playoffs.

Probably could have been on there as a TE too if he played there more regularly. Dude is a freak and, like you said, the "best player". I guess MVP all comes down to what your criteria is for the award.

Well QB is always more important to a team the DE, so as "most valuable player" the QB should get it. Hence the "most valuable player" name.

I don't disagree entirely and I get your point. But if you take Watt off the Texans how many games do they win? Not many. He was a disruptive force on almost every play he was on the field. He was very valuable to the Texans. More so than anyone else in the league to their respective team...IMO.

It's all about your criteria I guess and like I said...I don't disagree with you post...QB is generally the most important position on most teams. Though like we've seen when Rodgers and Brady have went down...sometimes those teams just have good systems and coaches that allow any player, like Matt Cassel and Matt Flynn, to look like world beaters as well.

If you spaced out Beckham's stats over the games he missed I think he would have broken the single-season passing yards record. It's just unfortunate that Martin's rookie year is the same as his.

He is awesome, along with a very awesome WR class...a lot of good players at his position.

Martin was the 4th OL taken, wonder how those other three are doing? Also, I remember some Jerry Jones rumbling they didn't take the "sexy" pick, Manzeil,...lol. He is the best OLman on a very good OL.

I don't think Beckham would have, or will ever, break any passing yards record.

All Praise for ZMart, our GREAT OLine warrior! He was/is the best "dancer/puncher" I've ever seen at ND, and we may never see another so good, even with the incoming flow of studs. As Mike Mayock said [in the highest praise that you can give an OLineman] "Zack Martin is an eraser."

Where I read it must have been wrong, but if his yards per game was over 16 instead of 12 he would have had the 5th most receiving yards in a single season at 1740.

I think if you had said "receiving yards" in your original post, IrishInsanity wouldn't have commented on Beckham not breaking any "passing yardage" records haha. I think we all knew what you meant tho. Beckham certainly has a shot at breaking some receiving yardage records...but not passing yardage records....since he's a receiver...and not a QB.

All in good fun...we knew what you meant and I agree that he has a shot at breaking some records during his career. He had one of the best, if not the best, rookie season by a WR that I've ever seen. Even with the missed games.

Water. Is. Wet.

God, can you imagine what a disaster Dallas would be right now if they would have drafted Manziel? Maybe Martin would have fell to the Bears and I wouldn't be such a sorry sack of $hit right now.

le sad.

True, but as good as Martin was at ND, I never thought he would be this good so soon in the pros. Offensive line is a difficult position to master quickly. I haven't researched it, but there cannot be many pro bowl rookie O Lineman the last 30 or so years. I do know that neither Anthony Munoz nor John Hannah nor Dwight Stephenson made the pro bowl as rookies.

I note that no O lineman has ever won the Offensive ROY.

The only other guy is Rick Mirer.

What do I win?

I should have been clearer....I was referring to the winner of the current AP ROY award. Mirer won the UPI AFC ROY in 1993; that award is no longer awarded.

The person I am referencing won the AP NFL ROY, and also the defunct UPI ROY for his conference.

But I can't say you are wrong, so you do win my admiration and esteem for actually knowing who won an award that has been out of business for nearly 20 years. (I had forgotten that, btw; I didn't even remember that the guy I am referring to won when he did.)
