Admiral dbag, thanks for the negative reps. Conor Hanratty should be in the game. Let me guess, you don't like my use of the word "jesus?"

Career ending back injury :( Another "what could've been" had injuries not plagued Mr. Lombard his entire career.

McGlinchey set to start bowl game in his place.

Career ending? That blows, he would have been given a shot in the nfl.

BK didn't confirm the career ending injury rumour today

It's that after he gets surgery he'll no longer be able to play football. Bulged discs are usually treated by removing part of the disc, which in turn can in some cases limit what you're physically cleared to do.

I doubt he's already had surgery or would have the surgery before the bowl game, right?

Report: Notre Dame OT Christian Lombard's career is over - CBSSports.com

By Tom Fornelli 2:11 pm

The career of Notre Dame offensive tackle Christian Lombard is reportedly over.

According to a report from IrishIllustrated.com Lombard has a bulging disc in his back that will not only keep him out of Notre Dame's appearance in the Music City Bowl, but end his career as well.

Lombard missed six games for the Irish last season due to a back injury, and the injury had been nagging him for most of the regular season. He was a three-year starter on Notre Dame's offensive line, playing right tackle in 2012, moving to right guard in 2013 and returning to right tackle this season. The 6-foot-5, 311-pounder had been projected as a fourth- or fifth-round pick in this spring's NFL Draft.

Sophomore tackle Mike McGlinchey will likely replace Lombard in the starting lineup against LSU.

Wish him well but he never seemed right. As I've said all season, people were quick to dump on Elmer but to me, it appeared Lombard was the weak link. Wish they gave McGlinchey more reps this season.

Since he's giving up football he'll use physical therapy to try and rehab his back and hopefully not need surgery for the time being.

Without going back and watching tape it'll be hard to go into specifics so you very well may be right on who was the weak link. With that said Elmer was still bad, maybe Lombard was worse but Elmer was not good. IMO, if healthy our best right side would've been Lombard at RG and McGlinchey at RT.

From the game day threads and post game moans Elmer took a lot of "overrated" hits but Lombard took more as the veteran that wasn't getting it done. There were frequent comments about Lombard getting pushed into the backfield and the lack of a running game up the middle.

I looked up his Career PT. Sat out as a FR. Played in all 13 games as a soph backup. Started all 13 games in '12 as a Jr. last season he was a starter in the first 7 games but missed the last games due to injury. In '14 he started all games EXCEPT Purdue where he didn't play at all. apparently this has been a lingering problem and he's been playing in pain for some time.

I usually stay away from the game day threads and can really only remember people moaning about Elmer more often then they did Lombard.

Gladly eat my words though.

Just as I did last season with Max Redfield, I kept calling for McGlinchey to get a lot more reps.

Pretty apparent his back was preventing him from performing at a higher level.

Oh yeah. Most definitely.

I said so throughout the entire season as well. Injuries were just too much for him to overcome and to me it was apparent.
