Maybe they're playing tentatively because last year they 1) were in high school, 2) were redshirting or weren't in the two deep, 3) weren't playing in this defense scheme.

Then what's SC's excuse b/c they're playing their share of true freshmen, walkons, etc. They're not great but they're kicking our asses and it shouldn't be this bad.

A 5th year program should not look this bad if your a good coach. Sure there is alot of freshman playing but thats on kelly for not recruiting and or developing the players he has gotten. It seems like this team lost all interest after Florida State. This is a Kelly problem plain and simple! This is a pitiful showing of ND football.

They quit when Kelly stuck with golson in the second half of az st. Golson got treated much differently than max and the team fell apart.

I wouldn't commit to a program where a coach plays favorites like Kelly. The seemingly random doghouse would scare me off.

Anyone else who still wonders if Zaire should not have not gotten in before today?
Hard to argue when Golson got ND back in every single loss. It's really impossible to tell if Zaire wouldn't have struggled as he did.

It is really nice to see a QB who is able to run a read option. Notice that Kelly went immediately into the hurry up with Zaire and it was read option all over mixed on with easy passes.

I've thought all year that Golson looked better in the five wide and am now thinking he'd excel in just a staight air raid scheme.

There's a point where injuries stop being the crutch. ND has surpassed that. Again, we are talking historically bad. ND has gone 3-9 and didn't look this bad. I don't blame the players as they have a ton of talent. The coaches are what needs to be evaluated, specifically the D side.

I agree that there has been poor preparation in many facets with this team. If you're suffering a whole lot of non contact injuries, there's holes in your program. Other than that, it's division 1 football. Our guys are big and strong. They're not losing because of that

All the time we watched Austin Collinsworth, Cam McDaniel, Everett Golson play was just hurting the future while still hurting the present. We sat better, younger guys for guys who were too hurt to play or just not good enough.

IDGAF about their record. More than half of their OL were playing in HS last year (which was the premise of your point), and they're kicking our young player's ass.

So take your record and do what you want with it. It doesn't matter. Look at what we're seeing today.

EG came out tonight uninterested...so the backup played.

But our D has nothing to do with EG or MZ...49 and counting...

BK's love for Cam is something I'll never understand. A lost year for GB's development.

I've also been calling for McGlinchey to play over Lombard all year.

BK needs to sell saving Greg a year in the pros wear and tear wise... I wouldn't blame GB one bit if he transferred to North Dakota st or someone like that, played one year and went pro... Same for Max... Two of our most talented players

And the lack of depth is squarely on the shoulders of Kelly and his staff. No one else to blame there.

Dissagree here. Having high academic standards and not allowing juco causes depth issues.

Pretty sure Kelly realizes Golson is a head case and didn't want to destroy any confidence he may have left by benching until he absolutely had to in this game. I agree that he did perform rather well in the second halves. Kelly realizes Golson has a tremendous amount of talent and I think he was trying to have him fight through adversity. Problem is I think him holding others accountable may have hurt the team overall.

Collinsworth was playing with one arm too.

Translation: ignore your points, look at mine!

Buster, I disagree with you about almost everything, but I know you're an intelligent person. You're backing out of this argument and I'm disappointed.

Your premise was 'how many of ND's defensive players were playing HS last year'. I countered with my point about USC's freshman playing (3 starting OL), and now you're trying to get off topic about records (which are irrelevant: look at the field), and now you're trying to pin me for 'look at my points'.

No, I'm not doing that. I'm looking at and responding to your point about the youth.

Some of us were calling for respect for what Diaco accomplished at ND, and even said the early success might not be indicative of real strength (2009 Nevada I believe was the example) for a defense so young.

Others figuratively sucked BVG's cock and then cried when the losses came.

Truth is, the jury is still out with BVG. You have to give him 2015 to prove himself.

Bull sh!t...the truth is it takes you another year to see the truth.

The verdict is out.

Not allowing JUCO is a bad policy in general and it doesn't make any sense unless to be holier than thou. If someone goes to juco and does well on the field and academically, why not bring them in? ND accepts transfers from Holy Cross.

Even with the suspensions, it's 5 out of 85 players. Only two, Daniels and Russell, were any good.

To me, and I try to be unbiased in my fandom, the reason for them losing is because of how complicated the defense is. I'm still watching the defense shift, move, shift again, point, move..snap. Guys running around all over the field.

At some point, its no longer on the players and we are at the point, past it even, where BK needs to make some serious changes on his staff.

I don't see how this program gets back to elite consistently without giving on at least one of those two... Not in this day and age.
