Since January of this year, Notre Dame has lost three football games.

The Irish have lost to the BCS #1, #2 and #3 ranked teams in the country, one of which will win the National Championship this year and one of which participated in the National Championship game last year and has won several titles over the past 5 years.

There are positives in there and I'm done playing babysitter for some of you. Figure it out.

While this is true....some might also say that it proves ND still can't win the big one. Our best win was probably Michigan a year ago.

I agree with you; there's a lot of reason for optimism.

But I have a caveat for your caveat: average margin of defeat in those 3 games: 20 points.

I could give a flying fuck what the press has to say, what the gameday, abc and espn fucks have to say about ND and their lack of speed on defense and offense. Didn't we all know that there was a bit of a gap there talent wise between ND and the elites like usc and osu? CW and his staff will be fine. We will start winning the "big ones" soon enough. I see nothing but positive things happening and if CW can do these great things these past two years with, to put it bluntly, average talent, what is going to happen once he starts playing with the "elite" recruits come in?

These two losses ND suffered this year were by their own doing, turnovers and not capitalizing on their oppenents mistakes. You didn't hear the assholes say that on sportscenter last night, Corso pointed it out that the game wasn't as bad as the final score showed, that suprised me.

I was f'n pissed off last night, but I feel better today. I hope the recruits that were at the game last night didn't get too blown away by the usc victory and see that ND is defiantely for real and with their talent, they can help turn the corner for ND and make ND just as big of a dynasty as that f'n usc.

Again... and it looks like I'll have to say it until I'm blue in the face: WE DO NOT HAVE THE TALENT TO COMPETE WITH THESE TEAMS. If you think we have the talent and depth of Ohio State, Michigan or Southern Cal, I've got some pristine Florida swampland I'd love for you to take a look at.

This team has overachieved. Everyone needs to take off their blue and gold colored glasses and take an unbiased look at Notre Dame's roster compared to the three rosters mentioned above.

Then, go to Rivals and take a look at the last 5 recruiting classes for each respective school. Aside from the 2003 class, we've not been on the same planet as these guys when it comes to getting top level athletes.

2002
5 Ohio State
13 Southern Cal
16 Michigan
24 Notre Dame

2003
3 Southern Cal
12 Notre Dame
17 Michigan
41 Ohio State

2004
1 Southern Cal
5 Michigan
9 Ohio State
32 Notre Dame

2005
1 Southern Cal
6 Michigan
12 Ohio State
40 Notre Dame

2006
1 Southern Cal
8 Notre Dame
12 Ohio State
13 Michigan

Our 2003 class willed us this year.

Absolutely and positively willed us to the 10-2 mark we're at right now. And if you take a look at that class, all but Quinn and a few others probably wouldn't even see the field at Michigan, Ohio State or Southern Cal.

This isn't Hoosiers and Jimmy Chitwood (Brady Quinn) cannot just sling his way to victories over South Bend Central (Southern Cal). We're still a full two years away from seeing what Weis can truly do when he has talent from top to bottom on his roster that is comparable with the Michigans, Ohio States and Southern Cals of the college football world.

Svo, I agree with you 100%. Outside of the MSU game last year ND has beaten every team they were suppose to beat, which is an improvement over the TW years.

I didn't say that at all...we're definitely not in the same league as the 3 teams that have beaten us.

Thes #1 factor in all the best team relates 100% to recruiting, I think you will all agree. Nonetheless, take the best 4 and 5 star athletes and mediocre coaching and you end up with mediocre players. So, I think it is incumbent on Charlie to take a hard look at his coaching staff and his own play calling in the quiet of off season for perspective on the future. I don't think Carrolll is a better coach than Charlie but he surely is a better recruiter. Look at the # of 4 and 5 star running backs he has now and is still successful in getting more...Tyler is a good example!

... But I have a caveat for your caveat: average margin of defeat in those 3 games: 20 points.

Which is about half of the Willingham 38 point defeats.

It was a very deep hole that we're still climbing out of.

There is a huge difference in attitude:

-Where they came from (Willingham/Davie): down 2 TD's the team QUIT

-Where the are (Weis): team did not quit when: down against OSU; getting smoked by Michigan; last night.

Also:
-against MSU the team would not have come back;
-UCLA would have been an 'L'
-Would have likely lost one of the service academy games due to inability to cope with the option attacks.

This team is SO MUCH better than 2 years ago, and anyone who is teetering on the bandwagon can jump off now; next year may slip a little from this year. You might have room to jump on the Miami or FSU bandwagons...those programs are looking great!!!

I should have capitalized the word TEAM

yep, says a lot when you consider it... the staf has done great... but emotions are always going to be high for a lot of us after a SC loss... I don't blame ANYONE for venting
