5th year head coach. If the team is too young he should have recruited better. The good thing about the fifth year is there are no excuses.
Excuses are reasons you just don't want to accept. That's on you.
It's not even like I don't agree that this
should have been avoided, it is his fifth year on the job. But what do you want? Fire him? Legitimize your anger?
Kelly has 2015 to right the ship. If he doesn't, his seat is boiling hot if not on fire (ie fired).
Kelly's time at ND has always reminded of Tressel's at Ohio State. Came up the system having basically built a lower division team from the ground up to win multiple national championships (Kelly at GVSU and Tressel's at YSU). Struggled a bit out of the game but showed improvement and beat the rival to end losing streaks and bring a wave of optimism. Both got to the national championship a year before they were expected to be a serious player....and now both programs took a step back as one cycle of players shifted to another that got the ball rolling (to national prominence in Tressel's case). People tend to forget that Tressel's 2004 squad finished the regular season 7-4. But they came back with huge amounts of experience in 2005 and were one of the best teams of the decade. Not saying Notre Dame will do that in 2015, but if Kelly goes 11-1 and 10-2 the next two years...then no one even cares about 2014's collapse.
