Just saw a small quip on USC on SportsCenter stating Jarrett is still up in the air because of the concusion he suffered against Cal. If he does place, and I know this may come across as bad, but I hope Duke pops him real good. I'd love to get as many gamebreakers out of the game as possible.

Yeah, I agree with you Svo, no matter how bad it sounds, that guy is THE playmaker on their offense in my opinion. 6-5 215 great hands, man he's scary, especially against our smaller corners. Plus he was the one who made the great catch on 4th and long last year...

People like to bash Carroll's hair and personality but the guy can coach.

In 6 years at USC he's 63-11. 6-6 in his first season, including a 27-16 loss at ND in '01. 57-5 record since then with NC in '03 and '04 and played for it again in '05.

Carroll's largest margin of defeat in 6 years is the 11-point loss to ND in '01. His other 10 losses have been by 4 (KSU '01), 2 (Oregon '01), 5 (Stanford '01), 3 (UW '01), 4(Utah '01), 7 (KSU '02), 3 (WSU '02), 3 (CAL '03), 3 (Texas NC game '06) and 2 (ORS '06). That's 11 losses on a total of 47 points, a little more than 4 points a game. Only 2 games were lost by a TD or more.

USC is 19-0 in November under Carroll and have won 32 straight at the Coliseum. Their last home loss was 5 years ago.

Jarrett playing is huge for them. They are stacked with talent, but when DJ was out, only Smith stepped up. In a game the magnitude of this one I don't see any of thier young guys stepping up if DJ can't go.

Funny, if you go to a USC board to read their comments you will notice that they really don't know anything about their own team. You will have a hard time finding a thread that even mentions any of the players, nevermind ND players. And there is really no discussion about actual football at all. We know more about them then they know about themselves. It's really kind of pathetic.

Think of what this game means to usc and what is at stake, no way in hell he misses the game. With that said, make that bastard pay every time he touches the ball and when the ball in his area, maybe then he'll go out of the game. Just one good/clean hit and maybe he'll leave the game.

call me crazy, but I want DJ to play. I want all of their playmakers in the game. That way, when we win, there will be ZERO excuses. I want Notre Dame to come into the colliseum and beat the Trojans best players. How much more gratifying is that?

Patrick Turner... but he isn't Jarrett.

Actually, I've read that Turner is more physically imposing that Jarrett is. Just younger and with less playing time.

Even if they don't have Jarrett, they don't skip a beat. 54-3 is 54-3.

Gable expected to start at tailback

By Gary Klein, LA Times Staff Writer
November 23, 2006

Freshman tailback C.J. Gable, who was pressed into a starting role for USC against California, is expected to start against Notre Dame, Coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday.

With junior Chauncey Washington slowed because of a knee sprain, Gable gained a career-best 91 yards in 19 carries against Cal.

"He's on track to be like he was last week," Carroll said. "We'll see how much Chauncey can add in."

Gable started the opener against Arkansas after Washington was slow to recover from hamstring injuries suffered during the summer and training camp. Over the next eight games, however, Gable fell behind freshman Emmanuel Moody and Washington on the depth chart.

When Moody suffered an ankle injury and Washington sprained his knee against Oregon, Gable shot back to the forefront.

"In leaning on him and going to him, he did everything we asked him to do," Carroll said. "He played really hard, consistently, took care of the football, made tough yards, made big plays, he did all of the things a good running back does.

"So in that regard, he feels a little better and we're a little more sure about him being able to be the lead guy in the offense."

Gable said he would not be intimidated by the prospect of playing against Notre Dame in a game that has national championship implications.

The Trojans are third in the Bowl Championship Series standings.

"I don't really see the big deal of it, maybe because I'm a freshman, but I'm just going to treat it like a regular game," Gable said.

Washington, who missed the last two seasons because of academic ineligibility, said he would play but remained frustrated by another injury that has derailed him.

"It's hard, I guess, to sit out a couple years — my body wasn't used to getting banged up," he said. "Maybe being away so long has something to do with it. A lot of people thought it would be better, but maybe not."

Washington is eligible to declare for the NFL draft, but he said he planned to return next season.

Starting right tackle Kyle Williams, who was stricken by a virus, was expected to return today after spending two nights in a downtown hotel. Williams' father, Scott, said he paid for the room so his son would not infect his roommates, center Ryan Kalil and tackle Sam Baker.

USC's line preparation has also been disjointed because backup tackle Charles Brown has been absent because of an illness in his family.

Guard Drew Radovich missed another day because of a bone bruise in his foot but said he would return today and play on Saturday.

If Williams is hindered against Notre Dame, Radovich could move to tackle and Alatini Malu would play left guard.

<HR align=center width="20%" noShade SIZE=1>Receiver Dwayne Jarrett, who suffered a concussion against Cal, participated in more drills and appears on track to play on Saturday

USC football notes: Lineman in hotel because of flu
<!--subtitle--><!--byline-->BY SCOTT WOLF, Staff Writer
<!--date-->Article Last Updated:11/22/2006 10:15:06 PM PST

<SCRIPT language=JavaScript> document.getElementById('articleViewerGroup').style.width = requestedWidth + "px"; if(requestedWidth > 0){ document.getElementById('articleViewerGroup').style.margin = "0px 0px 10px 10px"; } </SCRIPT>
USC offensive tackle Kyle Williams stayed in a hotel this week to prevent any other Trojans from catching the flu. Williams missed practice Tuesday and Wednesday but is expected back today and should start against Notre Dame, according to offensive line coach Pat Ruel.
"He's had the flu and it takes a lot out of you," USC coach Pete Carroll said.
Williams lives off-campus with center Ryan Kalil and offensive tackle Sam Baker, among others, so staying at a hotel is a precautionary measure.
"He'll be fine," Ruel said. "He'll start."
Even Carroll caught a virus, although he did not miss any practices or meetings. He did take a nap in his office Monday night before going home because he did not feel well.
Meanwhile, offensive guard Drew Radovich said he was ready to play despite a bone bruise on his foot. He is expected to start.
"It's a complete 180 from yesterday, the swelling's gone down, I'm completely fine," Radovich said.
Linebacker Rey Maualuga also practiced without problems despite a hairline fracture in his wrist. He will probably wear a cast for the game. Gable starts? It appears Chauncey Washington's sprained knee remains an issue after he was held out of practice.

"He'll be in the rotation," Carroll said.
It seems likely freshman C.J. Gable of Sylmar would start against Notre Dame, his first start since the season-opener against Arkansas.
"We're more sure about him being the lead guy," Carroll said, referring to Gable's 91yards against California.
Washington said he was not completely healthy but he's played with injuries all season.
"I've just got to wait patiently and let my body heal," he said. "My body is used to getting banged up. If C.J. gets on a roll, obviously he'll stay in the game. If it's up to me, I want to play the whole game."
Washington said he will probably return next season although he is not 100 percent certain. Quick rise: Linebacker Thomas Williams, who moved to fullback a few weeks ago, is currently No. 1 on the depth chart.

Once again, USC does not want to be referred to as Southern Cal. In the media notes handed out by the Sports Information Department, the Trojans would rather be called USC, Southern California, So. California, Troy, Trojans and Women of Troy (only for women’s teams).

Condoms, $cum, and University of Spoiled Children are also acceptable but remember NOT Southern Cal.

So they're going with Gable as their starter and Rey Rey has a bum hand. I'll take those, plus I think they're rushing DJ back on the field. Hopefully he doesn't get hurt badly.

lol, from SI:

Charlie Weis on Pete Carroll: "We're friendly, not friends." Carroll, at the start of his weekly press conference Tuesday: "Sorry I'm a little late. I was reading Charlie's [2,500-word] press-conference [transcript]." May these guys keep coaching against each other for a long, long time."

Weis definitely had the better jab.

Well, this didn't last long. We already have a ND guy asking in another post if anyone else thinks this senior class is a failure because they haven't beaten USC(I guess they were already assuming ND loses tomorrow).

Very nice. I guess bringing this program back from the friggin dead wasn't enough. I guess going 19-4 over the last 2 years wasn't enough either. I hate this kind of crap the day before the USC game.

touche... and it was a question if anyone would feel that way IF we lost, which I admitted honestly that I might... but I guess reading the post, then considering that fact people do have differing experiences and differing views born out of said experiences was too much to ask... I hate the Holier than thou crap the night before the USC game...

It's not holier than thou, it's just not pretending to be a friggin analyst the night before the game. Did you honestly think an ND fan the night before the USC game wants to discuss if the seniors are failures? You didn't see anyone being upset with that? Did you really believe that before the USC game any ND fan wanted to agree with you that the seniors are failures if they don't beat SC?

"Holier than thou" is a cliche that really doesn't even fit here anyway.

I'm sorry if I don't want to engage another amateur "objective" analyst. I've heard them enough this year. What ever happened to the "objective" people saying ND didn't belong in the Top 10 ahead of Texas, Clemson, Tennessee, Louisville, Cal, WVU, Oregon, Auburn, LSU etc.? And let's not pretend no one on this site said those things. Good job amatuer analsts. Look where "objectivity" got you there.

If you don't want to engage, then why do it? And I said I did understand what a class they were and their importance... but as a LA based Irish fan it would be hard to take ANY class going 0-4, hence a failure "to a certain degree" it wasn't beating anyone up, it wasn't being an amateur analyst... it was asking a honest question which you could have answered with a simple no not really but rather you chose to act above the sher idea of it all and call me unacceptable... hence....

An honest question I gave you an honest answer to. I'm sorry if you didn't like it and viewed it being above it because it wasn't what you wanted to hear. Giving opinions is a two way street. I didn't like yours and you didn't like mine. So be it.

And I guess I'm a homer. I don't see calling the kids "failures" if they don't win as sending positive vibes to them. And yes, that is exactly what you are saying. A failure is a failure regardless of degree.

I don't take any issue with your opinon sir, pretty clear I thought... i take issue with you taking my opinon on a single thread and responding with anger on mulitple ones... that's a hell of a vibe isn't it? And my apoligies... Didn't read you vibe post before posting, well anything for that matter, and I can honestly say I actually might not have asked my question had I, but as you can see I didn't post in this thread before then so... I'll be sure to read all of your postings before giving anything to the site agian... so good?

Sarcasm duly noted. I'm done arguing. All I've heard and read all week is how ND is going to lose and I hoped the one place I could go to actually see unconditional support for the Irish was here. And for the most part it has been.
