I think the better way of describing it is "fake news" rather than satire. And yes, that anyone would waste their time creating fake news to no real purpose (like humor) rattles my faith in humanity. What could possibly be the point? It also involves zero degree of difficulty, as opposed to the onion where the humor is not easy to pull off.
