Seriously? Ferguson is in St Louis County, yes, but that is NOT in the city of St. Louis. I'm out. Sorry, but this has gotten to be a little too much for even me.

It's in St. Louis, it's not in St. Louis.

They get their big awesome police force from all the poor people in their confines... blah blah blah. You're running out of distractions from the original point.

One of these days, you're going to realize that the gentrified people are pissed. They want a say, they'd like to be policed by people from their own neighborhood, they'd like information about the kids the police gun down.

It's not too much to ask. Your argument assumes that they're too dumb or lazy to ask for it. You're a racist, sir.

Re-Quote: Furguson just afforded all those militarized vehicles with that sweet sweet tax money from 21K people huh? You're embarrassing yourself.

This took all of about 10 seconds to find, on Google. Its amazing what you can do, with an open mind that isn't already made up:

According to a report by David Mastio and Kelsey Rupp of USA Today, the Ferguson Police Department is the beneficiary of a Department of Defense program called 1033, which redistributes surplus military equipment to civilian police forces across the U.S.

That surplus military equipment doesn't just mean small arms, like pistols or automatic rifles; but also armored vehicles, like the mine-resistant troop carriers used in Afghanistan and Iraq. Nearly half a billion dollars worth of equipment was send to local law enforcement in 2013, according to the agency's website.

You're argument assumes that they're too dumb or lazy to ask for it. You're a racist, sir.

1. It's your.

2. This is why we can't have nice things............ I don't agree with you, and I don't buy into your warped, cynical view that the government is out to screw these people over, so I am a racist. Gotcha! Thanks for the rational, informative, intelligent conversation.

2. I gave you the rationale, you gave me the bootstraps argument.

Damn skippy, Hippy. Your is the possessive form, as in "your home", or "your argument". You're is the contraction of you and are as in "you are wrong", or "you're wrong".

lulz... I didn't see my first mistake. There was two You'res and one should have been a Your.

Damnit. With that... I respectfully ask for a cessation of hostilities. I can't go on once I've been bested with a your/you're violation.

Let's think about Fall Camp for a while. I'm sure we'll get back into this at some point.

Edit: Wait! I fixed that on the quickest of edits!! You were fast on the draw there, sir.

What "proof" could I possibly come up with? You guys got your minds made up. It's their fault they haven't pulled their bootstraps tight enough. I get it.

Your'e not racially blind at all. I concede. Well done. The white man wins again.

Go Redskins.

How about any. If not, then quit posting.

You presume to be giving us the straight dope...but you've offered nothing to back your claims up. Yeah, when you show some sort of evidence as to why the people of Ferguson, MO aren't able to self-rule, then post it...and maybe a discussion can occur.

Otherwise, you're just spewing stuff out of your ass. It appears you'd prefer this than actually having a discussion on the matter.

Alright jagass. You show me definitive proof as to how you have self-rule over anything at all.

Then we can talk. Until then, quit piggy-backing on somebody else's argument. He's better than you at it.

I think I have been downright NOT hostile, considering that I have been called "stupid", "dumb", "Goober", and oh yeah.........."a racist".

You wanna keep this going? You caught me in a your/you're error. That's all.

I stand by my assertions of your racism and stupidity. I believe I've done a pretty good job backing up how I feel about this matter, all you've done is perpetuate a circular argument about the inner-workings of Metro government.

As for your little henchman there, he's not helping your cause.

Puh-leeeeeese! POOR people feel oppressed, all over, and despite what you might think: There are PLENTY of poor white people. Maybe the anger stems from apologists filling black youths heads with the idea that they are still treated like common slaves, and that that experience is unique to them?

Good God.

All I had to do was back up in this thread a little. You are quite the little goober aren't you?

Something just occurred to me........ for those of you who have never lived there, the People's Republic of Portland has this goofy, touchy-feely, tree-hugging entity called Metro. Now Metro is a pseudo-government body that has VERY LIMITED control over certain aspects of local governments within the Portland Metropolitan Statistical Area. Here is an overview: What is Metro? | Metro

If you read that link, you will see that Metro is involved in urban planning and environmental issues, almost exclusively. They are NOT involved with who can, and cannot be hired as Chief of Police in any of the suburbs. But, even if they were, the Portland Metro "Government" is a rarity. Portland is the ONLY place I have ever seen or heard of this type of entity existing. So maybe jughed is assuming that St Louis has the same type of setup. And maybe they do, but there is NO EVIDENCE that it exists, or that it controls who is hired as Chief of Police in Ferguson.

Name calling, changing the subject, and asking for proof and evidence from the opposing argument before you've presented yours.

These are all pretty clever...if you're 13.

You've done a solid job presenting your argument today. Take a nap now, I'm sure you're exhausted.

Don't bother responding to your quote I threw up from page 1 of this travesty of a thread. Keep on arguing the minutia of local government politics. It's easy to do, I get it. Nobody can ever really win that argument, and as long as you keep on with your wordy rebuttals, you can keep someone trapped in it.

No. I entered this douchey thread to talk about the larger point, and you summarized your take very well. You believe that somehow, the people who live in this neighborhood -- and others like them -- are either too stupid or too lazy to effect change.

Please read your diatribe from page 1:

Maybe the anger stems from apologists filling black youths heads with the idea that they are still treated like common slaves, and that that experience is unique to them?

You assume that these black youths can't think for themselves? Are they incapable of organizing their own neighborhood? What were you saying there?

I was saying that maybe the black youth have been conditioned to believe that there is no way out for them, and that if they commit crimes then it is not their fault, because there is no way out for them. Maybe if we reverse the narrative, and tell them that they CAN be the change that they want, but not if they refuse to live by the law of the land, then maybe they will develop the hope to at least try.

Mo. Governor Orders State Of Emergency, Curfew In Ferguson : The Two-Way : NPR

by SCOTT NEUMAN
August 16, 2014 4:24 PM ET

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon says he's ordered a state of emergency and implemented a curfew in the city of Ferguson to curb incidents of violence and looting in the wake of the police shooting of an unarmed teenager a week ago.

"We can't let the ill will of the few to undermine the goodwill of the many," Nixon said, speaking at a church in the St. Louis suburb.

The order for a citywide state of emergency in the St. Louis suburb and a curfew come after the Aug. 9 fatal shooting of Michael Brown.

Missouri Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson, who was appointed earlier this week to take over security from the local authorities, said the curfew would go into effect from midnight Saturday and would run until 5 a.m. local time.

So, your solution is to simply tell young black people... "Hey, don't let the man keep you down. Go out and achieve whatever you want!"

And... done?

Is it really that simple? Holy, God... has it been right in front of our face the whole time?

Just saw the video of the kid at the convenient store. Looked like he would have fit in well at Florida State...Paying for merchandise is for the other guy. Doesn't make what happened justified but makes me question some of the "eye-witness reports" of the exchange between the him and the cop.

Funny how nobody sees anything if the cops are asking, but they see all when a cop is involved.

"I don’t know what happened in Ferguson, Missouri between the cop and the kid. And neither do you. When I covered hard news I saw cops who crossed the line and I saw kids who started trouble. So let’s not jump to conclusions.

But what do you think the reaction in Ferguson would have been if the kid who got shot was black and so was the cop? Or if the kid was white and the cop was black — or white? You think there would have been demonstrations and riots and an onslaught of national media?"

I watched the video and read the text.

Where's the vindication?

This?

#2 Then the next thing I know he doubled back toward him cus – the police had his gun drawn already on him

Because he (I assume that's Brown) doubled back?

Not a reason to shoot unless Brown was menacing, like displaying a gun, knife, or 2 by 4. If Brown got close enough to the cop to lunge at him that might be justification but I've not read that anywhere.

It was reported the cop was aware of the robbery but NOT aware of the store video showing Brown and his buddy, the chief eye witness to the shooting. So the store video was a NOT reason for the cop to get in a scuffle but it could explain why Brown did.

Brown could have feared he was about to arrested for the robbery and panicked. Even with the altercation IN THE CAR I don't see the justification for the follow up shooting. I could understand a cop believing Brown was trying to kill him shot in the car at Brown as he fled. BUT once Brown stopped fleeing whether his hands were up or NOT, there is no justification for shooting AGAIN.

Tell me what I'm missing.

I'm not jumping to any conclusions. However, since everyone went ape shit there has been a video of the kid robbing a convenient store and an eye witnessed telling another that the kid was charging the police officer. I'm just pointing out that those who have already convicted the cop in their mind is not likely to change their minds based on these two things. Never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

This validates the story (only one that makes sense) where brown attacks the cop and then tries to get away. Cop yells freeze, then the guy who just committed the robbery charges. Cop doesn't know what he has. If a guy punches me in the face and rushes towards me, my mag would be empty too. Especially at 300 lbs and 6'5. Not a chance in hell this cop sees a jail cell. I bet it doesn't even see a trial. Riots in the streets when he is cleared.

Cop threatened to shoot a reporter on camera.

Brown was shot 6 times, twice in the head.

Prayers for safety of all there. I can't imagine being in front of a hostile crowd in a gas mask. For those who didn't serve, gas masks SUCK!
