I had to work Saturday, I haven't even seen a highlight from the UCLA game.

Oh, okay. Well, he ended up starting alongside Travis Thomas and Mo Crum. Basically, he has replaced Mitchell Thomas, who has been less than impressive to say the least. Additionally, he was in on many tackles and was laying wood. It was nice to see.

Was Brockington the LB who was competing with M. Thomas for the starting job at the beginning of the season? If so, I guess it just shows that some guys perform better in the game than in practice.

He started and played very well against UCLA. I look forward seeing him the rest of the season.

That question was asked at the press conference. Charlie noted Brockington was the backup but has improved steadily and moved himself into a starting role for UCLA. He earned his place on the field.

Also keep in mind that the style of offenses ND faced in the first half of the season were predominately passing threats. ND's base defense was essentially a 4-2-5 with a good deal of dime. The opponents of the next few weeks are considerably less a passing threat. Brockington's development comes at a good time.

He took Mitchell Thomas' spot yet he's been backing Travis Thomas on the two deep, correct?

Mitchell Thomas' actual backup was Vernaglia, was it not?

That would mean that Brockington overtook two guys....the one and two at that LB spot, yes?

You're right, I remember now. Vernaglia was competing with MT at the beginning of the year. Very impressive of Brockington to move up that quickly. Good for him.

I know he was busting some heads on special teams. This probably opened some eyes.

Brockington was the 4th LB last year. I believe beside Crum he actually had the most experience of any of the linebackers. I'm glad to see him out there.

Most impressive game part...

Most impressive game part...

AZIrish,

From the failed 4th down conversion to the sign-
off (approx 15 minutes), ND never looked better.

Not only did you see the best football, you also
saw the best traditions from ND.

The modest and articulate responses by the play-
ers and coach. Credit to the visitors without
saying ND was naturally a better team. Singing
the ND alma mater (except for Darius talking)
and arm in arm during both the alma mater and
the victory march.

Parting visual shots of the university, dome
and stadium with the announcer stating
positives about the team.

You had the feeling that he did not want his
shift to end...Tom

I didn't even get to see any of this, but this post makes me feel both proud of our team and proud to be an Irish fan.
