So you're saying ND is full at the secondary and wouldn't take either of the three I mentioned above? I find that hard to believe. Those three seem to be on the elite side of things. Not sure the staff turns any of them away. But that's just my opinion.

That's not what I said.

We've got 5 DBs right now. If Reid had wanted to commit early, we would've definitely taken him. If he wanted to commit right now, we'd probably take him. If he wants to commit when he currently plans on committing, there's a very low probability that we'd have room for him.

Bilal, Coney, Soso, ESB (or best avail), pass rusher is what we're going for with flex for up to 1 more. Little chance we'd stretch the class to 23 for a guy like Reid. And after we get Bilal/Coney/Soso... well, I don't think he'd be a take then in favor of swinging for the fences with other prospects.

I haven't been paying that close attention to the numbers so my bad for not realizing how close ND was to filling up already.

My last thought: The final class never ends up being like I hoped/thought it would in July. I'm just going to assume that even if they fill up soon, the staff will continue to recruit the best players and sort it out in the end.

Staff won't pull a kids offer if a higher rated kid wants to come to ND. No hope of turning away Ferttita, Coleman or White if Ross, Marshall or Reid want to jump on board.

I know they won't pull offers but haven't they, in the past, planted the seed for a kid to move on from ND and left the decision up to him? I feel as if that happened at least once. Maybe I'm wrong.

IDK the specifics, but there was a LB/TE recruit from a couple of years ago, from the state of Washington and it sounded like this is what happened.

Mattingly?

Yeah, I think we basically stopped communication on that one. Then of course we had extra schollies on NSD.

I believe ND kind of did this with David Perkins.

They only do it if the kid is not a fit. If he keeps his grades up, meets requirements and doesn't do anything out of line, ND won't pull his scholarship. A kid like Fertitta would have to let his grades go to shit or really mess up for him not to come to ND.

NDPhilly is going to fly out to Nevada and start partying hard with Fertitta to get them slipping, lol.

And the most frustrating part is that we all know there's no way ND starts the season with 85 available schollies.

Yeah, I wasn't implying that ND should or will do that with Fertitta. Just saying I believe that was the case with Perkins. I went back and read his thread and it's unclear to me if it was purely academics or if ND kind of guided him out the door for fit issues unrelated to admissions.

Yea this is the recruit I was thinking of but couldn't remember his name. I never heard the whole story on this one. Didn't the staff just recruit over the kid and he ended up leaving because the writing was on the wall? I don't recall him having any issues w/ behavior, grades, etc. The staff just went for other targets and he ended up leaving from what I remember.

I'm not saying the staff will or won't do something to current commits. But it'd be silly to just stop recruiting the elite uncommitted prospects just because ND is "full." Everyone knows that ND has major trouble staying at 85.

I wonder what will happen if Gallimore wants to come to ND. 4 DT's in one class...or do one (or 2) of the other kids decide to go elsewhere?

Staff always has a clearer picture than we do.

David Perkins leaving Ohio State per Meyer; Toledo Blade confirms he was arrested in Bowling Green last weekend - Land-Grant Holy Land

After speculation yesterday evening that an individual fitting the hometown, birthday, name, and sharing the same facial features of ex-Ohio State linebacker David Perkins was arrested in Bowling Green, Ohio last weekend, the Toledo Blade has confirmed that it was in fact the ex-OSU linebacker who was taken in to the custody early last Saturday morning. It had been widely rumored that Perkins was considering transferring to play for Dave Clawson and the Bowling Green Falcons, but after the arrest, that option appears off the table.

Perkins is alleged to have broken into a car before being located by police while trying to enter a stranger's home at 2:45 a.m. the morning of Saturday, May 25, 2013. In the police report that the Blade obtained, Perkins was said to be intoxicated with "blood all over his hands and clothes" following large cuts to his wrist. When Perkins was asked by law enforcement what he was doing at the woman's house, Perkins stated "I called coach and he said to go to her house." After smashing the driver's side window of the car and getting in, the woman in the home (who owned the car) told the authorities she didn't know Perkins.

While it's tough to say what transpired given the account of the police report other than a young individual had had far too much to drink in a place he wasn't familiar, here's hoping Perkins bounces back, gets himself right, and is able to land on his feet. While he only recorded 6 official tackles in his time with the Buckeyes, he was a promising talent, and if he's able to get his act together, should be able to help the school willing to work to rehabilitate him.

I was talking about Mattingly, not Perkins.
