I'll miss the Crystal Ball. This is classy and all, but it lack something IMO.

It does. There is to much vacant space on the bottom black section. It would be nice if they had a CFB championship logo or something they could fill the space with.

it looks like an award, not so much a trophy.

My first thought as well.

Yeah, the Crystal was much nicer looking.

Pretty sure that empty space will be filled with the winning teams name or logo.

Yep, Cotton is now a major bowl again and the Peach Bowl joins the top tier.

I knew about the Cotton and was happy about that… I grew up with that being a major Bowl…

But I like, didn't even know the Peach Bowl still existed...

It'll be nice seeing the Orange Bowl matter every now and then again also... one of the biggest reasons I wanted a plus one was b/c it would make more bowls meaningful every year.... the BCS wreaked the Orange Bowl... it went from one of the must watch games every Jan. to a game almost no one cared about at all.

Agree. Before the BCS, the Orange Bowl was THE game. The BCS allowed the Big east/ ACC agreement to water it down. Under the new agreement, it will be ACC Champ or 2nd place acc vs Highest ranked team from Big 10/SEC or Notre Dame... In NON playoff years.

Highest ranked AVAILABLE Big10/SEC though, right? If #1 B1G goes to the playoff and #2 B1G goes to the Rose Bowl then what?

EDIT: This doesn't strike anyone else as completely stupid? You essentially have ten at-large teams with a random ACC / Big 10 matchup thrown in for good measure. Historical tie-ins are rendered worthless.

The PLAYOFF itself makes sense for the top four teams, but for everyone else it's going to be a confusing mess and non-playoff bowls are going to be even more worthless than they have been.

Have the agreements with the former "BCS Bowls" changed or must teams pass through the same/similar qualifying criteria as before to be "BCS" eligible?

EDIT: and I know ND has the ACC bowl tie-ins but beyond that, what are ND's bowl options and what do they have to do to get into the top bowls in years ND misses the playoff? Is the Orange Bowl ND's only major bowl tie-in?

See above. Tie-ins are shit since the big bowls have shifted to at large bids. The Orange Bowl is our only real tie-in and we lose even that on a year when it's a semifinal. It's essentially top 10 or bust.

How is this stupid? All "Major" bowl games on NYE/NYD.. Orange bowl is not gonna be a random wed night Cincinnati vs Vtech match-up.. the committee pairs all the major bowl games.. so its pretty much gonna be the playoff teams and then the top 10-12 teams left over facing off vs eachother. Stupid anit the word I would use. Huge upgrade.

When I was a kid, and I say this all the time, the Orange Bowl, the Rose Bowl, the Sugar, the Cotton, you knew who won 'em, whether they were national champions or not. It mattered. Your fan base [was] happy. ... There was still something about college football that you could have a successful season without winning a national championship.

I think it will eventually hurt college football, in my opinion, because let me tell you something: A lot of these programs wouldn't have been built without this bowl system. Because back in the day, all these teams that have built their programs up? ... [They] wouldn't have been in a 16-team playoff that everybody wants to push for. I think it's a sad thing, a slippery slope that we're going down, that I hope we don't. I hope we don't ruin it. I'm a traditionalist, I guess. I believe winning the conference and being 11-2 and winning the Orange Bowl, that's still pretty daggone good.

This looks like the trophy that 2nd or 3rd place should get.
