So what does he need to produce (sacks and TFL's) for it to be a successful season in everybody's eyes. I think he has to put up Shembo like numbers. 7-8 sacks and 10-11 TFL's

Not sure about the sack numbers since he could have more run-defense responsibilities as a true DE, but the TFL numbers seem about right.

That was a terrible job by the linebacker as well. Was on his heels and completely failed to get down hill and fill the gap. Anyhow, last years defense was kind of a mess.

What's a bit reassuring is that ND had to put Okwara at nose tackle due to injuries and still managed to win.

The defense in general has been a major disappointment this year. The whole unit has been a complete tease. They started out good, but that all turned out to be a farce. BVG needs to get his crap in gear.

That's what I'm worried about with this 2014 defensive recruiting class of mostly 3 stars.

I agree! Every once in a while you find a Tyler Eifert but for the most part, I look at a 3 Star as a 3 Star until they prove me different. I never get excited about one until they land on the scene.

Hill has been good in his spot role, but is he ever going to evolve beyond that? Cage is probably my favorite out of all of those guys. Martini too. I really can't think of anything Grant or Hayes has done this year. Maybe I just wasn't watching closely enough.
