Wiltfong thinks we could be a player here, and it is really early in the process for him. Strong academic / football high school.

OSU lean per crystal balls

OSU has been recruiting him really hard. Urban + Larry Johnson is a dynamite recruiting tandem to fishing in DL, especially in the Northeast.

As always, though, get him on campus and see what happens.

Interesting to see some top talent come out of my home state. Not known from good football.

I like this kid, but he's not even in my top five for DT. This years class is loaded at the DT position.

Only lists that matter are Trinity's. Until he releases his big board of RKG's no one else's opinion matters IMO

It's so awesome that we've had success going head to head with Urban recently. At least getting prospects they really want

The fact that Kelly beat Urban for two recruits who have brothers on Urban's team says something.

Yep and add Q.Nelson to that list. OSU wanted him really really bad. We're not going to beat them every time but we're definitely having our fair share of success.

per 24 7 Penn State guys

It's tough to say where the Nittany Lions stand with Wilkins, who is the top recruit in New England has has offers from pretty much everywhere. Sean Spencer likes what he sees in the four-star prospect and is hoping to get him down for a visit this spring. Other than that, his recruitment is pretty much a mystery.

I saw some Jabroni put a CB in for ND

I know it would end up like this, but from these early reports. We are getting all the DTs!

Scout: He has quietly visited a lot of schools, mainly ACC plus Stanford and OSU. His coach thinks he would like to see PSU and ND sometime shortly. They are taking the process patiently, no decision timeline.

He's a big boy, just saw some video of him from the RCS in NJ. He moves well for being 295. Nice feet, body control and pretty good use of hands.

Size-Strength-Speed
Good height and bulk at this stage with a frame that looks capable of supporting additional good mass with time in a college weight program. Displays very good upper and lower body playing strength and good initial quicks for size.
Versus the Run
Demonstrates the ability to fire out low and uncoil at contact and when he keeps pads low he can be tough to move off the ball with one blocker and flashes ability to hold ground against double teams. Needs to continue to develop hand usage, but flashes the ability to separate and shed from defenders in time to make a play at the line of scrimmage. Flashes ability to work through contact and create penetration at times and as a run defender.
Pass Rush Skills
Displays ability to develop into an effective bull rusher. Flashes some activity, but needs to continue to develop the use of his weapons. Displays the lateral mobility to develop effective double moves as a pass rusher. Can do a good job of getting his hands up and knocking down passes when he can't getr to the QB.
Toughness/Motor
Active and physical player that displays good recognition and a nose for the football. Flashes good range and along with a good motor helps him to make plays outside of the tackle box at times. Can be a good wrap up and run through tackler.
Bottom Line
Wilkins looks too often have a good size as well as ability advantage at his current level and may need to adjust to a slightly greater jump in competition. Still though, a good prospect with the size and tools to develop into a very productive college D-Tackle.
Junior Eval
STRENGTHS: Strong and sound defensive tackle prospect. Demonstrates a powerful build with very good upper and lower body playing strength. Flashes good speed and range to make plays outside of his box. Reacts well to schemes and angles and shows a good nose for the football. A punishing wrap up and run through tackler. Very adept and active defender versus the run. ... AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: Lacks great explosiveness and sudden quicks off the ball. Can be disruptive at times, but needs polish in his speed rushing technique. He relies on quickness. ... BOTTOM LINE: Wilkins is a solid interior player that shows consistent production and has good upside. We feel his best fit is at DT, although he almost exclusively plays end. Could develop into a fine two-gap player.

What? He doesn't have any plans to visit Bobby D at UCONN?

Was reading posts in Elevenwarriors on Elijah Taylor's commitment. Several posters thought Taylor committing to us helps them with Wilkins as they viewed ND as the biggest competition.

Not much info posted in Wilkins. CB's on 247 are almost all pOSU. Did we have much interest in Wilkins?

We offered but nothing ever seemed to come of it. I think the staff is just happy with who we have.

Agreed, I bet the staff liked what they saw but they liked what they saw from guys that were willing to get to campus and end their recruitment sooner.

Which just seems lazy to me...if Green or Wilkins want to come to ND are they still takes at this point or is the door closed on all "top tier" guys?

Its not lazy at all in fact it would be so far from that I'm not sure how you came up with that. Lazy would be recruiting the 4 and 5 star players only and hoping to get some of them with. Hard work is diving into tape and hitting the road for evals to see if there are some under the radar, late bloomers, or players that fit your scheme better out there like what the staff did. Are their better players out there, of course. Nobody said there wasn't but when your running a program there is a fine line between taking players that want to be here and pushing for kids that may not be the right fit. Lastly, nobody said that we are done recruiting elite DT's. In fact, if you take the time to read all the threads you'd see that the overwhelming thought is "elite" DT's are still in play. Does Wilkins fall into that category, not sure. Greene and Gallimore most certainly do.
