At the rate his stock is rising, I might not be too upset to see the Giants grab him at #12 or even drop back in the 1st round. They need a lot but think they need to go OL. Historically, they are a BPA type of a team so who knows what JR and company have in store.

The thing which has always surprised me about the ignorance by commentators about ZMart is that while they were {lazily} regurgitating their non-think about "short arms", they were missing the freakishly great physical attribute which sets him apart. It is his "feet". Fantastically quick, staccato-pumping and center-of-power re-adjusting, throughout all the punch-and-manhandling which goes on during a rush, we almost never see the rusher get outside Zach's width of physicality... therefore, unless Tommy would himself drift around that wall's edge, the rusher had no chance.

Zach can out-power-dance anyone of any size, and simply flatten anyone of small size. He IS a left tackle, despite the arms we always hear about. The pros may shift him, but they will do so only because they themselves cannot overcome their own blinders about arm length.

Mike, this is so dead on! One of the things when you see Zach up close is how broad he is from top to bottom. I mean there are guys on the team with huge legs. But Zach's are mega-huge. Not just his thighs. Everyone would believe how he has huge thighs, but even his ankles are prodigious! He has an obviously strong upper body. But he never diminishes. He has broad hips huge ankles and is clearly the perfect platform to support that kind of "punch." I stood and talked to him for a bit one time in particular at the gate where the players enter before a spring game, and he has pretty massive upper body strength as you have pointed out. But your right! The platform it sets on is incredible!

It is so interesting that no one is talking of Taylor Lewan anymore! His teammate is getting more accolades. And for Murphy to call Martin the best; C'est incroyable!

Louis Riddick (@LRiddickESPN):
Talk about the lack of "talent" at the Senior Bowl sheds light on fact that only some truly believe in development/utilization importance.

McShay has him going to Broncos at end of first round:

"COLLEGE: Notre Dame | AGE: 23 | HT: 6-4 | WT: 308 | POS: OT

"There is one reason why the Broncos are Super Bowl contenders this season, and that same reason is what is going to make them contenders again in 2014: Peyton Manning. So even though Denver has other need areas, its top priority needs to be protecting its quarterback. The more tape I watch of Martin, the more I like him. He is consistent, shows up to play all the time and is versatile (he's capable of moving inside to guard, but also athletic enough to stay out at tackle). The Broncos can address their other needs -- WR, CB and D-line among them -- later on in the draft."

Norris' Mock Draft: Jan. 27 - Mock Drafts - Rotoworld.com

12. New York Giants - OL Zack Martin, Notre Dame

This is all dependent on a team believing Martin can play tackle. I think he can be good on the edge, but an excellent interior lineman. Martin plays with a wide base but extremely powerful hands. He is a versatile type that can fit into the starting lineup, but shift to another spot if necessary.

NFL Events: Combine Player Profiles - Zack Martin

ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS
Engages quickly. Flexible and light on his feet. Can work his hips and maneuver. Good blocking posture -- bends his knees, sits in his stance and can shuffle, slide and mirror. Good hand placement (can pop and recoil). Seals running lanes. Can combo block and fit on linebackers. Athletic to pull and trap. Passes off stunts and is alert to blitzers. Started all 52 games of his career. Played well against Alabama in the BCS Championship and was MVP of the Pinstripe Bowl. Sparkling intangibles. Highly respected, hardworking leader who does all the right things. Two-time captain.

WEAKNESSES
Lacks ideal length to stay outside in the pros -- relatively small wingspan. Not a pure road grader who rolls off flat-backed and buries defenders. Could be stressed by bigger, more powerful defensive tackles. Can improve balance and sustain on the second level. Does not have experience at guard. Could stand to bulk up in preparation for a move inside.

BOTTOM LINE
Athletic, smart, competitive, dependable college left tackle whose length dictates a move inside, where he has plug-and-play ability in a zone-blocking scheme. One of the cleanest prospects in this year’s draft.

I didn't think he would be our first player drafted but it is looking more and more that he will.

If I'm a GM this would sum up why I'd draft Zach. Very little risk.

Bingo. He's a player that you plug and play. He'll be a mainstay for 8-10 years and you won't hear a peep from him.

I always thought it interesting that out of all of the ND players that have come through the program since the Weis era, that Zack Martin didn't get the Notre Dame Man moniker.

Two time captain. Won the offensive lineman defender award on the team every year he played. Offensive newcomer award if I remember correctly. Has the most starts of any Irish player ever. And he never had to answer one question about his behavior either while at ND or to an inquiring NFL club.

Oh, and he likes Batman.

Might need to change Zach's title to Notre Dame Man. Only the 18th man to be a 2 time captain. Hearing Kelly talk how he keeps the o line together and the upperclassman wait over an hour to work out with the underclassmen is unbelievable.

We have amazing young talent that are being fast tracked to greatness because of Zach Martin.

I have a few favorite OL's from the Holtz days, but Zach has become my all time favorite ND OL!

I could make the argument that Zach epitomizes the moniker known as "Notre Dame man"
