Is it too early to start the "if they win out for the regular season do they make the tourney" talk?

If they win these next two, I'm going to be right there with ya haha

But yes, I think 7 wins to end the season and a 10-8 record in the ACC (about a 1 % chance of this happening) would be good enough to be about a 10 seed.

Isn't gonna happen but If they won out they'd have wins over Duke, At UNC, At UVA, Pitt, that's pretty solid.

Problem is, if you're struggling to beat a HORRIBLE BC team for your first road win of the year, you ain't beating the likes of Virginia and North Carolina on the road.

But yes, it crossed my mind too!

So here's the ultimate irony. I wrote this article almost exactly 4 years ago for the Observer:

Bright Basketball Future
I would like to applaud the efforts of the Irish Men’s Basketball team in Wednesday night’s heartbreaking loss to Louisville. I admit that my first reaction to the final buzzer sounding was anger and doubt. I wondered if the team will win another game this season. I thought that our players were not “clutch.” After my heart stopped pounding and I took a well-deserved seat, I began to see the game for what it was (other than an inconsistent display of refereeing).

The four years I have been here have been a roller coaster of hard-court emotions. In 2007 and 2008 we completely exceeded expectations. Our home court was defended to the tune of the nation’s longest winning streak. Men’s basketball slowly became worthy of a massive jump in student ticket prices because of the quality of play. Even my father, who used to hate sports with a passion, now calls me before and after every game to hear my opinions. The team manages to earn respect in the toughest conference in the country. The game against Louisville was a testament to the players’ resilience and hard work. We lost, but even the announcers could not help rooting for us.

I was worried that our team would be horrible next year without Jackson and Harangody (in that order). But tonight proved to me that we will be competitive, if not pretty good. The players who kept us in the game tonight were the guys that are going to be on the court next year and for the next few seasons. Thank you for making Notre Dame basketball exciting to watch. I’d rather be disappointed in a team that lost on the road to a perennial power than convinced that we never had a chance in the first place. Go out and win the rest of our regular season games — starting with Pitt! Win two or three games in the Big East tournament. Make it difficult for the selection committee to leave us out.

I'd like to think the team read this because they actually did go out and win the rest of their games...

That was an amazing run they had. Capped off by that Scott buzzer beater at Marquette to end the year.

Just thinking back on names from that team, they seemed to have a lot more talent then...

Pumped to get DJ back. Apparently Brey was working 1-on-1 with him nightly giving him personal practices. Gotta win this Miami game, it will give them so much more road confidence going into the UVA game

He would be better if he played with confidence. Also if he didn't go to the rim out of control.

All the tools are there, but the driver isn't behind the seat mentally.

I really don't get it. Why pull Knight now? He's the big playing well, so we pull our small line-up (we've stopped them in consecutive trips, which is a first), and we do a mass sub (putting Atkins back in with 2 fouls).

What?

Miami up 20-10.

Turrible.

I didn't realize people were actually watching the rest of this season

I keep trying to stay away. To extinguish that little voice telling me that things are going to get better.

Gotta play some D this half. Down 12 for those who aren't watching.

Tom Noie is tweeting about how the game is blacked out. It's on NESN (New England Sports Network) here which makes no sense but I'm not complaining

On the plus side, DJ looked more aggressive than at any point this season.

Hit two 3's, and got to the hole multiple times. You can tell he has a ton of physical ability, but he hasn't learned how to deal with the size he encounters when he attacks. Still gets "stuck" in the air without fully committing, even just a few feet from the bucket.

Yeah, in high school, those were lay-ups and dunks. He gets to the rim all the time, but he can't finish. My friend got to see them practice pre-season, and he said DJ lived at the rim, but was finishing (nice to go against Knight and Sherman lol).

This will all be good for him in the long run though. Glad to hear that he's aggressive tonight.

Its funny, it seems like everytime they play a team, someone on the other team has a career night. What does that say exactly?

7 with 3:48 to go. DJ with 15.

And in case you're wonder, yes, our Bigs are still bad.

Good rebound Garrick. The guy is 6'4, so I understand.

gK, you're right. This is now bordering on bad for my health.

Pretty simple, they hit these wide open shots and rebound the fucking ball. They'd be winning.

4 with 44 seconds.

Man. Down 5 and we hit Beecham up top. He didn't realize how open he was, took a dribble to the hoop and then fired. Would have liked to take our chances with an in-rhythm 3.

Love that they decided to play with 2 minutes left. They played like shit the entire game and still have a shot, it really shows how bad Miami is.
