I know (And believe me I know) it's tradition to break them out every once in a blue moon and typically only when we are underdogs... but who else is hoping ole' Charles might start throwing them in once a year or so, heck we might even be able to enjoy a win in those jerseys for the first time since 77... ;) To me they just look to good to only see them twice a decade-ish.... anyone with me, or do you feel it would lose the magic? (that never seems to bring a win anyhow...)

What's lost the magic is how many times this topic is gonna appear. A search on green jerseys in this forum turned up two pages of threads the history, preferences, and polls on the topic. I like 'em but Charlie will use them if he feels like it.

As for
that never seems to bring a win anyhow...
ND's got more losses in blue jerseys than green.

So much magic has been lost that it demanded time and effort on your part whereas you could have simply stayed mute...

Maybe we should try gold jerseys with white or blue numbers.

The green jerseys will NOT be worn this season or anytime soon. CW stated that the other night at the pep rally..hence the green towels.

They should be used sparingly, but not put away altogether. Those jerseys were gorgeous. They got rave reviews even from fans who hate Notre Dame. Burying them because ND couldn't defend a 4th and 9 pass play would be silly. Bury the cornerback, save the jersey.

I agree with ralph :gasp: Those green jerseys were some of the best looking ever. However, dragging them out every year or two would cheapen them, unless it was planned preseason with no surprise involved. Otherwise it becomes a cheap gimmick. I would not mind seeing a move to them full time ala Devine's teams, but otherwise they should probably take a few years off.

He also said he'd never pull them out at all when he became head coach, and we all know he lied on that one....

Charlie'll whip 'em out again. Maybe not this year, but one day when they really add something to the game (like USC last year) he'll bring 'em out.

IMHO they have lost their surprise/shock/motivation factor...or whatever other feeling they may have inspired. I do like them, however and I think if ND were to use them it should be for all home games and not just for a special occasion. I bought my son a BQ jersey just last week and it looks really sharp.

They don't inspire fear in the opposing team anymore or shock the crowd, but I don't think that's why Charlie used them last year in the first place. I'm pretty sure he said somewhere he did it as a gesture to his own team, as kind of a reward. Apparently, the players didn't even know they were doing it unti they walked into the locker room that day and saw the jerseys hanging in their lockers.

I think getting to wear those jersey's still means something to the players, if only b/c they get to say they were part of the tradition while they were at ND.

Ha, well, I almost started this topic yesterday, but forgot to do it. So you took the heat for me, lol.

Idk what's going to happen.. it's the biggest recruiting weekend of the year, bar none.. and it's obviously a big game. But I think Charlie also knows when something has been over-used; that's not to say that if they come out in green people won't go crazy, because they will... I know I would.

We need to win a damn game in them and I think this would be the perfect time for it to happen. I had a dream last night that ND wore the green jerseys.

.....against "Northern Alabama" of all schools and we lost, LOL. I don't even know if there is a school called Northern Alabama, at least there isn't in D-1. It was an embarassing loss, needless to say.

we should do it every 4 years, against usc. i know it would be boring because we would all know when it was going to happen, but it would make it so that all players would wear it once and just once.

Close. There's a University of North Alabama, in Florence. The UNA Lions won 3 Consectutive Division II National Championships in the 90's going 41-1 in that span. The only loss was by 3 points to Youngstown St.

Green jerseys should be used rarely and only for truly special games.

I know people think we "need" a win in a green jersey, and that the easiest way to get it is to pull out the greens against a creampuff.

Bad idea. See 2002 against Boston College. BC took that as motivation for THEIR side.

I rest my case.

Sure is, I live about 45 minutes from UNA. Nice small school with a football team that usually does well. The campus is nice too. I've been to a few of their games.
