But what makes it devastating is sometimes they are not lined up as safeties!

Its true. They also disguise them very well. As long as thats what he means by complicated (having different sets for some players) Im more than fine with it. Just don't drop back defensive linemen. LOL.

Mine is very similar. For DL: Rochell at SDE, Day at DT, Jones at NT, and I. Williams at WDE.

Assuming Grace and Councell won't be ready to go by fall camp, at LB: Jaylon at WLB, Deeb at MLB, and Okwara at SLB.

Looks like Martin and Councell will be ready to go tomorrow.

Councell is a good one for BVG's defense. At end. Rush or break off into coverage. So the safety can blitz. Combine a powerful, large safety, with Ben and you have a lethal blind spot for a lot of offensive coordinators that we will face. That is what I believe BVG is going to want to do.

I like your list particularly with the sophistication you portrayed the DE-OLB between the 4-3 and the 3-4 with Ishaq. All in all, I think you may have taken on as big a challenge as untying the Gordian Knot.

At offensive guard and center, I think Connor Hanratty will be a starter. He filled in starting at both right and left guard last year. If Christian Lombard comes back okay I believe they will be the dynamic duo.

I believe that CJ Prosise will remain on offense. He is one step away from being a matchup nightmare.

I would love to see Turner play at LB! If Councell's knee is good that may be a thing, but I think you are wise not to italicize Grace at this point. I don't think they will be able to keep Okwara out of the starting lineup, somewhere. I think the heavy Safeties will be inserted into packages to give opposing OC's fits. Big time so many will play.

The rest would be speculation but I would expect Onwualu to make a bigger splash and Hunter to move around a bit. Who knows? There are about 256 combinations of wide receivers that make sense. I think if AC is to see the field, he will need to do it as a slot, or a receiver. Maybe on special teams.

How many can we take next year? Or can someone link me to the scholarship breakdown excel sheet?

Assuming there are no transfers, medicals, or early NFL Draft entrants, we can take up to 25 players.

However, we have 15 seniors with an additional year of eligibility.

It's too early to tell who you assume comes back and who actually does, but a safe number for next year's class is about 15-18.

Kelly repeatedly mentioned "the next 20" on signing day.

We may find the right 20 or the right 18. Nice to know you have a large sample of 5th years to pick from.

The next twenty is a reference to walk-ons (whether preferred or not) as practice players, not the next year's class.

just went back and read the transcript. it seems in the response he mentions the next 20 after 85 & then later says about next 20 to get to 85 through recruiting. i think he is addressing both walk ons and next years class.

1] QB: Blake Barnett
2] RB
3] WR
4] TE
5] OL: Jerry Tillery
6] OL: Tristen Hoge
7] OL
8] WDE
9] SDE
10] DT
11] OLB
12] OLB
13] CB
14] CB
15] S

16] DT
17] ILB
18] WR

This would be my uneducated guess as to what position those scholarships go. It really shows just how tight scholarships are.

If you're only taking one safety, do you use it on a guy like Justin Tranquill? Ehhh..

OL and WR are stacked. I didn't realize how young the OL is! I knew we had lots of young talent but next year we will really start to see it on the field.

WR - I see the talent but I want to see some All American caliber players emerge. Plenty of guys there have the skill set to do it and hopefully Golson is the missing link to our less than impressive WR production.

I agree. While I think having 5,6,7 WR's that are pretty good isn't a terrible problem to have, I think I would rather have 1 awesome guy...and then 3,4,5 pretty good guys. Kind of like RB-- as we saw last year, having multiple guys that are pretty good isn't that great of a benefit. One great RB would be better.

As far as depth goes, sure we all want it and it is needed (particularly making sure you have young guys that will be ready to step up when it is their time), but I'm not sure having 6 or 7 WR's is really a benefit over having 3 or 4 work horses. WR is, in some ways, the least physically demanding position on the field. Plus, jumbo packages, 12 personnel, exotic looks, etc., give those 3-4 guys time to get off the field and a rest anyway.

Updated for Riggs, who I think will start with KR.

Riggs is really fast, can he return Kicks/Punts?

I am very nervous about our WILL depth. I think we may need to experiment with CJ and Turner in the Spring, and see if either of them stick. If not, Tranquil may be the answer.
