From a Toledo Free Press interview with DeShone Kizer:

Being able to play at Clemson my sophomore year and being able to go to Stanford and USC every other year, it’s the only school in the nation I’ll be able to do that,” Kizer said. “We are also going to play in Dublin, Ireland. This is just something other schools don’t do. That’s why Notre Dame is so special. There is nowhere else in the country I would rather be when you put the academic tradition and football tradition together.

I loved rolling out of bed, eating a pop tart, then cracking a cold one and watching some ND football bright and early.

Was that announced somewhere? I feel like I would have remembered that from the press release / news conference.

No but it's a good guess. 4 years apart means a new class gets to go, it's not announced, there were rumors about new Ireland games starting in 2015 or 2016, and we play Army the week after Navy in 2016 so it's not like it is a tough opponent later.

I sincerely hope not. I can understand doing this the first or last week of the season, or at the very least with a bye week on one end of it. But I would really hate to see home game, Ireland game, Shamrock Series three weeks in a row.

Kelly groused publicly about the trip to Ireland's impact on the practice regime and classroom activities as I recall. I'd love to go but they need an open date before and after due to the travel time and jet lag. Holtz didn't want to go back to Hawaii for the same reasons.

Fans and players love it.
