i dont think any of the top 5 teams beat any one that would drop nd out for winning a close game but worse things have happened

We'll definitely drop a little. All of the ND haters are looking for any reason to drop us. Spurrier will definitely do it to us in the coaches poll.

I don't really care. If we beat Penn State, we get it back. Besides that, 1 or 3 (will probably be 1-2 in the new polls) play each other next week. If we keep winning, the polls will take care of themselves. Three more weeks to daylight.

That's exactly how I look at this situation.

I bet we drop to 3 but either 1 or 2 lose next week and we will jump them in the polls.

We will drop, I would guess to 4/5. Did you guys see the part on gameday where they showed the top five teams, their opponents, and then the margin of victory? Mark May was saying something about ND not being that good, when I realized that only one top five team played an away game and only one played a decent team.

They were already hyping up a possible 1-2 matchup next weekend on ABC/ESPN. I'm sure the voters in the AP will make it happen.

No big deal. Even if ND wins the national championship, Mark May will not have anything positive to say about them. There will be excuses and he still won't be convinced. Then he'll say something about a play-off, or that they should have faced this team instead of that team in the title game. Maybe ESPN wants him to have that stance to create arguments on the set. Who wants to hear everyone agreeing with one another for 2 hours before and 2 hours after all the games? Or, more realistic, he just hates ND. Anyway, I can deal with it.

sucks that we get pumished for struggling against a good solid team the first game of the season. Meanwhile other schools that destroy some division 2 school move up in the rankings.

At least we were battle tested early on, poor PSU had Akron to warmup for us. They're in for a big surprise next week

Right, Spurrier will vote ND two spots below Duke.

Based on the O failing to capitalize on long kickoff returns and the inability to hit FGs of any length (they come in handy in close games), I'd drop ND to about 5th for now. The top 4? Auburn, Texas, OSU, and USC.

they'll definitely drop....no big deal. will be more interested to see how far the loser of Texas-OSU drops next week. If it's more than 1 spot I'll be shocked.

The worst is that every year there's an 0-1 team in the week 2 top 25. This year there might not be one, or Cal might stay in, based entirely on how highly they were ranked to start with. And if they are, it'll be a joke. Last year it was Oklahoma, who lost at home to TCU and yet somehow was still ranked ahead of TCU in the week 2 poll.

These things are a joke for several weeks, not just the first or second.

then why didn't they just rank the 2 pre-season to start with?????they knew they would win thier home openers and play each other next

Yeah, we will drop. And its wrong too.

USC had a scare with VT 2 years back. They did not drop.

However, people love to hate us...we will drop.

Wasn't VT ranked like #12 that year though at the time of the game? I know they won the Big East that year.

I don't think it matters if ND drops this week. If ND beats PSU and Michigan, it will be right back up to #2 at least, with the winner of OSU-Texas being #1.

Yep. This is the truth, right here. I hope we do drop a couple spots. Light that fire a bit.

The networks want a 1 vs. 2 game for obvious financial reasons, so we will drop. On the other hand, they also want ND to remain in the race for the same reasons.

As far as Spurrier is concerned, WHO CARES!

Yeah, it would be another tool to use to motivate the boys. CW could say "with play like that, it's a wonder we are ranked!!!"

You know he will too...LOL

Do you guys really think we'll drop in the polls?

It was week one and we were the only team in the top 5 that played a decent opponent. Not to mention we were away in a hostle enviroment. Sure, our performance was a little disappointing, but it was week one. While everyone else gets a cupcake to fine tune their offense/defense, we schedule a quality opponent. I really don't think a W is going to drop us in the polls this early.

Our performance was disappointing on offense and defense in the first 25 minutes of the game. ND owned the game thereafter. ND's 2nd half offense surpassed the average Total Offense for a half from last year. Quinn was 16/22, 73% in the 2nd half. The Defense shutdown the #1 ranked WR in the 2nd half. Tech didn't score in the 2nd half. Care to count Tech's 3rd Down Conversions? 2-10. Total Defense surpassed last year's in all categories and this was a nightime road game.

The Bookies had ND by 3.5 - 4 points over GT. ND won by 4. No 4 TD victory but exactly what was supposed to be expected. A tight competitive game.

And did anyone notice, ND's "only" RB, The Bellcow, was prone on the field injured and the ND Offense didn't collapse? Then the "little" came back in and did his thing.

We could drop in the polls but this is the kind of game that Alabama and OSU both won 12 or 13 times in a row in recent Championship seasons.

We'll drop, but not much, maybe one or two spots, which is fine, way early in the year to be that concerned about rankings anyway. I think the people in the media really want a #1 vs #2 matchup this weekend to add to the ratings for the Texas/OSU matchup, not like its going to need it, but every little bit of drama helps, especially since its been the FSU/ND game in '93 since there was a 1 vs 2 game in the season.
