I don't care about "recruiting right now", because I could care less how we rank this year. I base my judgments on what I see on the field with Kelly's recruits in his 4th year.

Here's what I see:

I think Councell is average. Ditto Farley. I am stunned Collinsworth even sees the field in Kelly's 4th year. There should be a younger guy there, but Hardy is just getting playing time. Shumate has not impressed me at all. I do not think Springman and Houndshell (if he doesn't get injured again) are going to back fill Nix and Tuitt without a drop off. Grace didn't impress me at all. He's slow and stiff, a huge drop off in talent from Manti. Ishaq Williams is a tweener who excels at nothing. He's serviceable, but not elite.

If you think these guys are elite players, that's your prerogative. I don't.

Wow I mean wow. I have never blocked anyone on IE. But your comments are so stupid I probably will block you.

That doesn't change my point of view, which is that just as we've gotten stomped virtually every time we get to a BCS game, we are not closing the gap. I wish it was not so, but I think it is the truth. We'll see. I hope I'm wrong.

We have only been to one BCS game since Kelly has been here so you are basically judging us by the game vs Alabama? ****, then there are many teams that haven't made it yet as Alabama is know to do that to even good teams.

Councell is good at setting the edge but struggles in pass coverage. I agree that Farley and Collinsworth are not ideal safties. Hardy was injured and is just getting the mental side along with Shumate. Both are very talented though. Also you are smoking some crazy **** if you think Springman and Hounshell can fill in for Nix and Tuitt without a drop off. That tells me all I need to know about your eye for talent. Springman is a nice player but more along the lines of Cwynar than Nix. Also Ishaq has been good at pressuring the QB this year but he is not great at dropping into pass coverage or that great against the run.

How about we talk about all the young players making contributions that are Kelly's recruits.

Elmer, Stanley, N. Martin, Niklas, Koyak, DD, Folston, Cam, and Golson.
Tuitt, KVR, Jaylon, Luke, (heck if you think Springman and Hounshell are that great lets add them in), Hardy has really been coming on the past few games.

That isn't even including the true freshmen that have shown promise such as Folston, Butler, Robinson, Fuller, Redfield, etc.

Kelly has had only 3 recruiting classes that are his own, I would say he is doing a pretty damn good job.

Re-read carefully how he wrote that sentence.

He doesn't think Springmann and Hounshell can replace Tuitt & Nix without a drop-off.

My thoughts:

1. Defense should have been ready for this offense after last week but looked worse. The announcers kept saying Navy is better than AF, but somehow Duke, W. Kentucky, and Toledo could stop them. We had the same problems as last week. One defensive guy against both the QB and the pitch. Corners were non existent.

2. Farley needs to come off the field. Period.

3. Foltson looked great. Much better than GAIII and Amir at this point.

4. I thought we were cooked on that reverse. Thought it was a great play call on their part. Took an outstanding play by Hardy to slow him up and Jaylon to finish him off.

5. Nikolas was a beast all day. And had a nice comeback block on the Koyack TD.

Just watched the game for the 1st time. Used alot of slow motion haha

Negatives:

Tommy Rees is still Tommy Rees. (1st interception wasnt his fault though)
I will be happy when Fox and Carlo graduates.
Tuitt got buried alot, way too much for a guy that projects as an NFL player.
Okwara played undisciplined way too much.
I'm convinced that Farley needs to go to tackling camp.

Positives:

Day played like a champ.
I think the play calling was good. Could've been a little more run heavy, but I love the balance.
Cam was Cam, if he only had more speed he would be an NFL target for sure.
TJ really looks like a slot receiver at the next level.
The Offensive Line played awesome. They are definitely the most consistent part of this football team.
Tarean was awesome today. He needs to get that gas tank better haha
Koyack is the new Cris Carter, he only catches TD passes.
Collinsworth is a fast kid! He saved a few plays with his speed.
I think Niklas is one year away from being really special.

Other:

The Farley penalty was ****ing ridiculous.
Niklas didn't hold on the TD, but Daniels did.
Schwenke was hit or miss for me, I think the misses were due to being gassed.
More Tarean and Cam combo please.
I saw about 10 clear holding penalties on Navy that weren't called.
I hope Councell is good to go. I hate to see injuries like that.

Wins are Wins. GO Irish!

I'm not sure there are many duos in the country that could...maybe none, actually.

So Brian Kelly is doing a terrible job because his second team guys aren't as good as two of the elite D-linemen in the country, who he also developed.

Wait, you're telling me when we replace first round draft picks on defense, there shouldn't be a drop off?

I'll have some of what he's on. These players don't come around often.

Also, Tony Springman is a god damn viking and will eat your heart if you back talk him.

-The offense was awesome. No punts, only two stops came on: 1) a completely BS penalty, followed by bad luck 2) one bad decision from Tommy. It's very hard to do better.
-Tommy played well for the most part, missed a total of maybe 7 throws. High QBR and 12 yards per attempt. That one throw into double coverage was a doozie though.
-The defense was so bad. Just absolutely no ability to defeat blocks and penetrate for most of the game. Safeties were really bad for most of the game, inside linebackers were laughable at times, and the DL just wasn't winning up front. On top of that... so many injuries it's scary. We could be in real trouble.
-Folston is by far the most talented RB of the 4 right now. Feed him the ball, McDaniel + Atkinson (as change of pace) as necessary. Carlisle dropping that screen really ticked me off.

It almost seems to be a mental issue now with Carlisle. Kind of reminds me of Riddick returning punts Kelly's first year. Starts off with one or two bad plays and then snowballs to where it is a mental block.

Yes reminds me of Koyack last year, so much talent but no confidence. I believe it will come to him eventually, just like it has for Koyack.
Btw we need more 12 personal, because we have 2 stud TE's

In carlisle's defense, Tommy really rocketed that ball.

Think about it, you turn your head to catch the ball and your QB, who is 4 yards away, whips the ball at you. And the ball meet carlisle just when he came out of his "break"

That catch is tougher than you might think..

This is true. Since that is the first screen we have seen this year, they probably don't practice it very often.

While it may have been a tough catch, he still needs to catch it. Also it this wasn't his first drop of the year. I would bet that he has more drops this year than catches.

Councell was carted off the field. Kelly said updates will be coming tomorrow but as of now I am very worried about how this shakes out.

It didn't look good. Thinking about this: Grace, Randolph, Spond and Councell out for the year. Wow. Can Prosise move back to lb for depth? Lol

Yeah, how often do you see a mediocre .500 team go a whole game without 1 (that's ONE)freakin' penalty the whole game! Needless to say, the officiating was just about as bad as the ND defense!

Those are the exact numbers I was taking about. Clearly this staff should move on, we were better off with Weis.

They're talking about escaping with a win. They're talking about how they have to improve, if they expect to win out. And the coaches are probably reminding the guys how nervous they must have been, in the 4th quarter. And tomorrow the talk will turn to how they wouldn't have felt that way, if they had just put them away in the first 3 quarters. The coaches will probably be talking about how Pitt will beat them like a drum, if they sleepwalk next weekend like they did this weekend. They'll be using the word "focus" in every sentence, and they'll probably be talking about evaluating the depth chart at EVERY position.
