A lot of holes in the desert, and a lot of problems are buried in those holes. But you gotta do it right. I mean, you gotta have the hole already dug before you show up with a package in the trunk. Otherwise, you're talking about a half-hour to forty-five minutes worth of digging. And who knows who's gonna come along in that time? Pretty soon, you gotta dig a few more holes. You could be there all f*ckin' night.

We should be careful to get out of an experience only the wisdom that is in it— and stop there; lest we be like the cat that sits down on a hot stove-lid. She will never sit down on a hot stove-lid again— and that is well; but also she will never sit down on a cold one anymore.

~ Nicky Santoro

(Who is based upon Anthony "The Ant" Spilotro. Close. The Weasel and he knew each other through the Bomp. Frank "Bomp" Bompensiero.)

I ran home for lunch and a TV show about these guys was on, talking about "Casino" and how it all went down. FBI thought they had them when they pulled them over. FBI thought the paper sack would have hundreds of thousands of dollars in it. They found salami. Someone had tipped off the thugs.

A sign hanging in a car repair shop.

Dear Customer,
You can select two of the three below, but can't have all three.
1. Cheap
2. Good
3. Fast

Run through the scenarios and you'll have a good laugh.

"That's my definition of an 'optimist': an accordion player with beeper." -- Johnny Carson

You should read James Ellroy's "Crime Wave." It's a collection of fiction and non-fiction. He does some stuff on Dick Contino, a guy who actually made the accordion cool for awhile back in the fifties.

I will read that. I've read some of his stuff but not that. Don't laugh but I actually like some accordion music; I listened to a book on tape once called "Accordion Crimes"; in between the chapters, they played different accordion music that fit the book. It was melancholy and good. Of course, that's different than the accordion music from Lawrence Welk et al.

Just thought I'd slip this in. It seemed inappropriately appropriate.
