Lost a tough one to Steve (UCONN) 24-22. I swear, if my team would stop shooting itself in the foot...(QB fumbles on a scramble, his D-Lineman runs it in) we'd probably be doing great! Still looking for my first conference win. If I can get better at the read-option I'd be happy (I think it's a cool offense). We had a pretty realistic game so I think the settings are finally in perfect shape. Good game Steve, UCONN is better than they look!

I just wish I didn't have to switch QB's everytime I want to run the option. I contemplated just making my backup the starter, but then my starter will impress me before I can do it.

I can't decide on an offense to stick with. Tried the read option, balanced run, spread. Any thoughts?

A lot depends on personal preference, what your comfortable with etc;

Another thing that's important is what are your teams strengths? Offensive line, QB (balance, pocket, spread) RBs & WRs. Depending on your personal can help a struggling offense. Some on the other run a certain offense their comfortable with too rather than personal.

I suggest playing as many exhibition games with your teams using different offensive playbooks and see what you like.

I like Cincinnati's playbook because it offers a bit of everything. A few nice singleback sets that are good for running or throwing; some I-forms that lend well to the power running game and PA passing; a couple pistol sets that are neat (but I honestly altered the playbook and changed them out for different pistol sets, this is the only problem I had with the playbook); and a bunch of shotgun formations that can be used for everyhing: power running, read options, triple-options (my favorite and IMO unstoppable if reads are made correctly), any passing game you like, etc.

The base sub packages are nice too, which allow you to save some formation sub slots.

But to actually answer your question, a playbook like this is nice because it allows you to experiment with several different offensive strategies with the same team and in the same game. Figure out what is working and build from there. Once you find your niche, then you can start to rebuild a teams playbook to further reflect your choices or even build one from scratch.

I also like to use ND's playbook, and just recently removed several shotgun formation to fit in some more pistol stuff. I experimented and realized how much I liked the pistol, as well as the triple option, so I added a few 2-back pistol formations to give myself some triple option plays, some zone-read plays, etc. This way, I can also formation sub in order to involve multiple RBs.

Oh man, what a great game. After going ahead 17-0 in the 2nd and looking like my Houston squad was going to roll Catholic's Rutgers squad all hell breaks loose. He scores with 6 seconds left in the half off blown coverage (my bad) and then starts the second half with an impressive drive for a touchdown. A field goal later and we're all tied up at 17 with some change left on the clock late in the 3rd.

Luckily for the Cougars, first year Head Coach Dirk Diggler doesn't panic under fire and stuck to his game plan. "Keep making the right reads Cosh, work within the offense".

In a game where every possession mattered, I was able to get the go ahead score and defend a last drive by a talented Rutgers team.

That's going to be a dangerous team in the future.. great game!

that's how the game with dre went today pretty much. i was up 21-0 in the 2nd, he scored before half and drove for a TD with his opening drive of the half. luckily, i kicked a fg on my one real possession of the 2nd half to squeak by.

"Houston is the real deal. They've got some great weapons, but more importantly their QB made the right option reads. We made great adjustments in the second half but it just went down to our QB Nova forcing a throw and turning it over. Like ours previous games, we were down 2 scores and came back, Rutgers has got to do a much better job coming out of the gate." Head Coach Joel DeLorge

Thats what I had to do. I prefer a QB that's a little more mobile, so I switched my starting QB at the beginning to the season for my backup. He's no Manziel though, thats for sure. For Memphis, "Mobile" means a Speed rating of 74 as oppose to 59 that the previous QB had.

When I made my playbook I started with Oregon's and then made a lot of tweaks to it. I tried to add more passing plays and formations because it seemed more run heavy. Right now I've got a playbook that has a pretty good balance between run and pass. I don't normally run a hurry up offense though, so my execution is different than theirs.

But, be careful because in the past (don't know about this year's yet) the custom playbooks caused all kinds of havoc in player vs. player games. It was tough to get them to start right or save right. I made one, but then just decided to find one that I liked from a school to avoid the tech issues.

I haven't seen where this has been an issue in this year's game. I think they've gotten this ironed out.

This is the truth  Houston looks like the team to beat in the AAC. I started out pretty well in the 1st Quarter with a score 7-0, and that was the only time I scored for the rest of the game. My running game was shut down, and my passing was absolutely horrible after that too. Just an awful game against Houston.

I can tell you that slowing down Houston's passing attack will revolve around shutting down that TE, Xavier Brown. He leads the AAC in receptions and yards right now, not to mention he has more receptions than all of Houston's other receivers combined. Brown actually accounted for 8 of Houston's 9 receptions in my game. Houston is balanced though, they can run the ball as well, their RB Farrow is no slouch.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, lol. He's the best receiver I have and pretty good stats for a receiving tight end. Effective in the run blocking game as well. I just don't trust Greenberry, yet; I wonder why..

It's just really tough to defend against tight ends AND the read-option out of the same base formation(s). Another big reason the WR's aren't getting many touches: lack of corner blitz's. The CPU doesn't have the balls and the user's I've played didn't employ them due to their inherent risk. When someone sends a corner, they'll get a touch and a big one (YPC) at that. And before you say to yourself, I'll just roll zones over to cover and have the best of both worlds, it easily the most telegraphed coverages in the game and the ball will go to the other side if I don't check out of it entirely depending on coverage.

Hopefully my defense will hold. I've always been more defensively minded and it's a young squad.. LONG way to go and while I might look good in the AAC, I haven't played anyone that had a more talented team and the prospect, honestly, scares the **** out of me.

My team feels pretty solid actually and the identity may completely change depending on if I get this athlete I want. But for now, we're a mix of West Coast and Smashmouth and I prefer that anyway. My D is solid, but we just seem to either let up juuuust a bit too early or have some crazy turnover out of nowhere.

Competition has been really solid though. I should have beat punkass South Carolina, I did beat punkass Penn State, and the three losses against users have been close, so that's good. Not like the paddling I took from a few of the users with mega stacked teams last year in the '13 dynasty!

Getting back in practice though...had a long layoff from the game.

Yeah there's no margin for error with you guys and that's what I like. I thought I had Steve and his UConn squad on the ropes in a bad way last week, up 14-7 with the ball on his 3 yard line and 10 seconds in the half. A TD puts me up by 14, and I was getting the ball right after halftime. I started eyeing that potential 28-7 lead... then BOOM. One boneheaded pitch eliminates my shot at scoring, Steve comes hard with the D in the second half, and we had a dogfight on our hands.

Nothing like playing with my friends, who have no game whatsoever lol.

Yeah, we have some good ballers on here I think. I'm used to playing with my friends and so I get used to their tendencies. This shakes it up and makes you have to come stronger as a player.

Have any of you guys experienced anything funky in overtime games against the CPU? I've lost two games against the CPU in offline dynasties due to a glitch that pops up in overtime and I'm getting pissed.

Whenever the CPU begins an overtime period with the ball and ends their possession with a field goal, it grants the CPU another possession right afterwards rather than giving the user their chance to match the field goal or win with a TD. The CPU offense runs another play after the field goal. Unless you can come up with a defensive TD, the game ends after this play because the game believes you failed to match the CPUs score.

The first time it happened to me, I went 3 OTs against ASU in a shootout. I held them to a field goal to begin the third OT, and so the CPU took possession again immediately and I lost.

The second time was a season later against Stanford. The CPU started with the ball in the 2nd OT, kicked a field goal, and got possession right back. I almost threw my controller through my TV this time because I basically had a perfect offensive game in another shootout.

I contacted the @AskEASupport account on Twitter and let them know about the problem the first time it happened and got nothing (probably because I was a dick about it).

I contacted their account again today and actually got a response. They searched their EAHQ user threads and found a bunch of people complaining about it I guess, so they tweeted me back and said they would let "the studio" know about the issue.

Sunday I would expect, since the advance went through. Memphis and Cincinnati are set to kick off the latest game of the college season tonight, I think. 12:30am kickoff

I lost to Duke in Overtime at the beginning of the season, but it was just one overtime, and I'm pretty sure it's because I turned the ball over on my possession. Seriously, who goes to OT with Duke? Thats right, Memphis

Nice. Looks like I picked up a couple too. I'm trying to stock Memphis with Jucos for next year so the team can take a step up with the big boys. I've got 4 already, mostly on defense, with another 1 or 2 on the edge of committing soon. I was in the running for a Juco QB too...but somehow ULM did an unlock after they were long out of the mix and they ended up jumping to 1st on top of that. I always thought when you "unlock" a locked recruit it's supposed to jump you to the lowest team's level that made the cutoff?

Because I'm on the west coast, my time is retarded a few hours, so if I go to advance at 9pm my time and someone still hasn't played, I'll wait a few hours and give them a chance to get their game in and advance before I go to bed.

BKness is on the "hot seat".

This is why I was concerned with having a sailor on sea duty in the dynasty. Square yourself away, shipmate!
