ND's performance likely to dip before stabilizing...

I'm beginning to think our data sample is too small, maybe we should look at several different outcomes like 14-20 or 35-17. I wouldn't know where to start though.
We can differentially integrate the points scored versus time (t1=15:00 min 1st qrt to t2=0:00 min 4th qrt). The values at t2 should yield a definitive (although theoretical) value determining the victor by finding the maximum value.

A series of linear plots between t1 and t2 versus points scored for each team should work too.

I think with these two working models we could eventually predict a winner at t2.

All this stat talk reminds me of when I was on a poker forum for awhile. A poster would say that he's a winning player because he's played an average of 20 hours a week and won tens of thousand of dollars over the course of several years. Then the stat experts would say "no you're not, sample size is too small." Huh?

That's like saying we're not sure if Wilt Chamberlain is good with the ladies because his sample size of 20,000 women is insufficient.

Agree...

Agree...

We are bound to face other teams that have significant losses too. In fact that's the case every week, every year.

ND's opponents face the same problems. So the playing
field is more level than the original post implied.

Check Michigan on the link, it will make you happy...Tom

I'm surprised that WR isn't much higher.
Hope Tommy has developed a good rapport with Niklas and DD, I'm sure TJ will be fine.

I think our performance across the board will improve. We're returning a good bit of starters and the ones we lost we are replacing with top shelf talent. The only position that is a question mark for us will be QB but I think BK is a good enough coach to work through that issue.

Confusion between stats and opinion

Confusion between stats and opinion

The beauty of college football is that pre-season stat dumps like this are basically meaningless. If last year didn't show that, I don't know what does.

You might not take the stat changes at face value, but you
can be sure professionals do. Anyway, What exactly did last
year show?

" Lou Brown " from the movie "Major league" once said . "Lets all give them a nice big $hit burger to eat".
I'm all for it. I'm optimistic, I think we are a much better team this year.
