It's an open question. The press release says the agreement lhas the option for games to be aired on NBC Sports Network. I read in an interview today that this will not happen before the 2014 season. But it will likely happen, and I'm not sure if it has to be a mutual agreement or if NBC can unilaterally decide which game.

NBC has ALWAYS had this option. Even under the existing agreement, NBC could have put any game from, say, the 2012 season on NBC Sports. It's a widely held misconception that this language is new to the contract extension. It's always been there.

5 night games in 2 years I think they said.

Yes. Every two years will have five night games:

Year 1- ND Stadium, Shamrock Series
Year 2- ND Stadium, ND Stadium, Shamrock Series
Year 3- ND Stadium, Shamrock Series

Swarbrick also introduced the possibility of NBC broadcasting "away" games at neutral sites if the opponent agrees to it for the purpose of exposure. For example, NBC broadcast the Ireland game last year even though it was technically a Navy home game.

NBC extending Notre Dame football is a GREAT thing. The discussion of having ND games aired on NBC sports net. Was mentioned last year. ND football ratings and viewership has gone up considerably and the network is hoping to capitalize viewership to NBC Sports net. ND had some of the highest rated games last season. Prime time games were also big wins. Next season has some huge home games vs MSU, Oklahoma, USC.

You've got to admit having a major network broadcast all home games looks amazing to any recruit walking on the field for the first time and seeing a broadcast setup on the sidelines with NFL greats Doug Fluite & Hines Ward.

As a side note a few years ago I remember listening to an interview with a broadcaster from Ohio State discuss the recent drop in competion nationally in the big 10. In his opinion he sighted it was the creation of the big 10 network attributed to it because it took the powerhouse conference in the country that consistently broadcasted games east to west coast every weekend and now have become regionalized. This had a huge toll on recruiting because recruits out of the region no longer had big 10 games played in their region. Luckily Notre Dame is one of the biggest draws in college football and call their own shots. That's one of the reasons so many people hate Notre Dame, they don't need Espn or a conference, they can do it on their own and that ticks others off. That's awesome!

Not being undefeated and not having a Heisman Trophy candidate will do that to your ratings.

Which is just barely below the ratings number for the top half of the top 15 PRIMETIME games last season.
