I'm not going to make a thread about predicting our record because we do that every year and 95% of us are never right. So I will just make a thread about what the Irish have to do to have season close to what we had in 2012. I've been thinking a lot about the season opener against Temple. Our starting 22 seems to pretty predictable, but in some spots (Safety, Dog, and Running Back) it looks like it could be an August decision.

Temple
-I have no idea what kind of offense they run, but going off of last years stats it seems like they are a running team.
-Chris Coyer, their quarterback, will be a senior. He only threw for 946 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. He also was second on the team in rushing. He had 444 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.
-They lose their 2 main running backs. I have no idea who would start because they 2nd and 4th leading rushers on the team were quarterbacks.
-On defense they run a 4-3 and they lose both starting DE and they lose both safeties. Other than that they bring everyone back.

I'm just excited for the season, I'm you guys are too. Let me know what you guys think.

How is Dog an August decision. I would say that Spond is pretty locked in as the starter. I would add punter, DE opposite Tuitt and possibly ILB (do you start Fox and Carlo or does Grave take one spot) and to your list of safety and RB.

Either Spond or Smith. I wouldn't put Spond in as a lock yet, I think Smith is more athletic and could play right away. I think Day will start opposite of Tuitt with EV getting a lot of playing time. And what is the point of bringing Fox or Carlo back if Grace is just going to start in front of them? I think Grace starts but I think he will take the spot next to Fox/Carlo

It is never good to assume so yes you are right. With Smith though as talented as he is I do not see him starting. Remember that Kelly said he did not feel Teo was very good as a freshman.

Only way a freshman starts now that we have established depth is through injury. Like KVR6 starting because Lo Wood went down.

Kelly said the best 11 will play so we will find out

Golson to Daniels will become the commom theme.

McDaniel will steal the starting back job by game 3 and then go on to become the workhorse.

Koyack realizes his potential and catches more passes then any other tight end in the team, niklas leads tight ends in tds.

Temple loses by 30.

(I have more but its time to get back to work!)

Jaylon with play situationally if he plays at all. All the talent in the world doesnt make up for lack of experience, he'll still be very raw. Plus I think Diaco wants experience this year too since he had to do a lot of improv with our injuries last year.

Golson is going to be a force. I look for him to put on 10-12 lbs and be a force.

Im excited. i think well be better next year as a team.

Belldozer scares me. A guy that can run the ball like that in college can carry a team.

Ill say 10-2/11-1

I will bet every vbuck I have that he plays

Ehh now really. Yeah he can run but so can Golson. Did you see Bell try to throw against us? He did it once and I'm pretty sure I could make a better throw with my left foot

Smith will play but he won't start. He is not physically ready to set the edge on run defense yet and has had some struggles with tackling in the all star game. I think he will play situationally on some passing downs and play special teams. He will only start if Spond is injured. Also while Day will likely start, I think Jarron Jones and Chase Hounshell will also be in the mix (and EV will be in the mix but not to start). I think the starters at ILB will be Grace at Mike and Fox at Will but it could also be Carlo at Mike and Fox at Will.

haha fair point. He punishes a defensive line and will get onto the second level. Hell keep our LB's on their heels and that alone will open up relatively easy reads for him to hit.

He's not fast though. I don't think he is that good

I mean if you only get the ball at the 2 yard line and you weigh 240 pounds, if you can't get in the end zone then you have a problem

The future is now, we're tired of waiting. Throw everyone on the field early and often if they can hack it. "Wait till next year" was fun the last two decades, but I fully expect top flight classes the rest of BK's tenure, and an avalanche of depth.

Who should we sit back to field punts and drop them?

I thought you sounded like a Cubs fan, but I notice your Sox logo there.

Am i the only one who is dying to see this offense completely open up next year?? I feel like it was a little to conservative for me but i completely understand why.

I am, but I'm not against Bryant, Atkinson and Carlysle combining for about 3500 yards either. :)

Ohhh i would love that! I think what i mean is id just like to see us put up alot more points regardless of how we do it to take some pressure off the Defense. I about had a couple heart attacks last season haha

I am too.

Although I do not want to be Oregon and run a style of offense that puts more pressure on the defense. I still am of the old school mind that defense wins championships.

No doubt. I still don't think my blood pressure came down from the Pitt game. As much as I'd love to see the runningbacks explode, I wouldn't mind Golson becoming the next Rice either. That, too, would be awesome.

It isn't just the offense that put pressure on the defense, the defense put pressure on their defense, too. They have never been known as a good defensive team. They were a bit better last year, but nothing to write home about.
