No they weren't. So I agree that this in home will be huge. FWIW, I asked Sapp what two prospects he would like to finish with. Obvioulsy he said Vanderdoes and then Fitts. So they might give some insight into how the staff has these last few prospects on their board.

So now its the race to who gets the spot other than EV we have one open spot and then a spot we are saving for EV. From what Hollins said it would be in his best intrest to commit as soon as possible if he still wants in. Personally I'd rather see Fitts pick us on NSD. I think the publicity of a NSD flip would look good and build some momentum going into the class of 2014.

I can't see that having any impact on 2014.

We are completely even with UCLA and Kelly is having an in-home on Thursday

I REALLY like our chances

Yeah, given his comments I would have to say he has a real interest and what he thought about UCLA being #1 is now gone.

I think 2 spots plus Eddie V. I'm still not convinced Fox and Carlo both make it back.

I agree with the Carlo and Fox talk. I think if enough people want to commit, they will be pushed out which is sad but that's big time college football.

they got their 4 years of tuition which was what the university promised them, but yeah its a bit harsh alright..do you think a school like rutgers would have a place for carlo if he didnt get a 5th?

One or both of Fox and Carlo will be very important to our defense next year. Not sure we should be so quick to hand them their walking papers.

I'm beyond confident that the defense would be perfectly fine with just one of them. I'm not saying which I don't want, but I will say I hope Fox is wearing gold and blue next season.

Kelly will be in-home Thursday per BGI (same day as Vanderdoes? not sure how that can work, as they are hundreds of miles apart, but that's what it said). ND helped itself by impressing Fitts on his visit this weekend but distance could be a factor.

Especially for team unity, dont wanna throw out many long time contributors, could have bad repercussions

The defense will still have:

Tuitt
Nix
Shembo
Spond?
Russell
Jackson
Farley

returning without either Carlo or Fox.

Leadership on that side won't be a problem.
Experience in the middle is the big thing but there are ready, matured men waiting to come in and prove it now.

In order to get a big combo of EV/Fitts/Isaac/Hollins/Prevot we have to let these two guys go (which I like them) I wouldn't be upset.

none of those guys play ILB. I'm all for getting great recruits, but not at the expense of a an extra two or three losses next year.

...I know none of them do.

you have Rabasa - Grace - Moore who have been in the system for years.

we were all worried about Bennett Jackson and a first-time ever ND freshman starter in Russell in the secondary.

They held their own (thanks in part to the front seven) -- nonetheless -- bennett greatly improved his draft stock after last year and this year will be his all-star season.

We're not putting true freshman in these spots. They will do fine and will not cost ND 2-3 losses next year...the D won't skip a beat...if anything they will be better

Our '14 class will already be small. With our P (read: momentum) it will likely be elite as well. Not only does keeping Fox/Carlo really help us in the middle, but it also gives us another spot in '14's class. If we think we can pick up someone equivalent in next years class I'd pass, so we get Fox/ Carlo and his people for another year. For me it depends how we stand with recruits in the '14 cycle.

That being said I like Fitts and would love to add him. Ultimately, I trust the staff will do the right thing. They have made great decisions thus far (most of our problems were out of their control), and I see no reason why they would do so in the future.

Two inexperienced ILBs with no experienced backup for either of them. Pretty risky IMHO, Jackson and Russell not withstanding.

See beryirish's post. 'Nuff said.

This defense will not crumble just because we lose two ILB starters. It's time for those guys to step up...and they will.

The depth behind them is frightening. We'll need some good fortune in that regard.

I'm fairly confident in Moore and Grace (especially Grace), but what if those guys get hurt? I don't have a ton of confidence in anyone behind them. Rabasa and Utupo may be unsuited to do anything besides rush the passer, and other than them we just have incoming true frosh. I still think we NEED at least one of Carlo and Fox.

Definitely will be bringing back one of them and my money is on Fox.

And just because Russell and Jackson were able to step up and have great seasons, again largely in part to our fantastic front seven, doesn't mean everyone will step into their role and be as great as they were.

I'm not a huge fan in bringing both back since they play the same position, but I feel like we should at least bring back one (Fox, preferably).

So back to that Fitts guy.

I'm pessimistic about his recruitment. I just see this as total long shot.

This is saying something as I am optimistic guy. I feel good about EV and surprisingly after being a big downer on getting him Hollins.

I'm with you. I've thought for a while that the most likely would be EV and Hollins.

This from the guy that more than once has said "keep the faith" to others? lol
