Overkill on the Superman celebration.
I might get killed for this, but after seeing this video I think JM is probably a pretty cool kid. Exciting to watch, seems like an "average guy."
It'll be interesting to see what he is like in two years. I predict the ESPN/CBS coverage of him the next two years will be very Tebow-like. We'll see how the kid handles all of the attention and @$$ kissing.
Until then, beat AL, LSU and GA, kid.
I completely get what you are saying, but I think Tebow isn't an apt comparison. Tebow was worshiped (pun intended) for his on-field play, his incredible leadership, and his undying (and very public) faith. Yes, overkill, but that's what the media does (see: Te'o, Manti).
I think a better comparison, personally, is Cam Newton. Incredible, game-changing athlete, fun-loving, not necessarily a good person. Because they were/are both so gifted, the media overlooks certain things. The only difference is that Johnny will be hyped (and eventually scrutinized) for at least 2 more years, while Cam was in the overhype machine for only a year.
And fwiw, that kid is an unbelievable football player. If he continues to work (partying doesn't stop many great athletes from having great college careers (see: Ray Malauga, or any great USC/Miami player ever), they sky is the limit. My Lord he tore apart that OK defense single-handedly, and was phenomenal against Bama as well...
