I hear ya Rhode Irish. I believe the situation is just as you suspect. I'm just incredibly frustrated that I've waited 20 years for a season that we just had and I've waited the same 20 years for the recruiting effort that we've had this year. The guy we really want to eventually construct a statue of is playing this out. I'm ANGRY! There...I feel better.

Yeah, that!

There isn't going to be a second interview.

I swear, I'd love to do a deal with some of you guys! Are you unfamiliar with posturing? What good does the initial interview do (assuming the purpose is leverage, which I think we all do) if the situation is over as soon as he leaves??? After the "first" interview, he either takes the job, says he will have another interview, or he gets no leverage out of it.

He shouldn't have had the first one. (I should say reported first one)

i know i said it in the AA thread, but i blame swarbick just as much as kelly maybe more.

extension should have been done over a month ago during our 44 day layoff

With the concerns for recruiting, I am kinda surprised we did not hear that BK and ND have reached an agreement on an extension. Really thought this mess would be over by this evening.

No way. You don't go and say leaving isn't an option and then turn your back on that. If you say that man up and live it. Even if he comes back you can never fully trust him again.

I'm not sure if it's funny or depressing how quickly some of you are willing to turn your back on a coach because of a rumor.

the university is about the football program and if he ****s that up...he is a complete failure...this school is just an Ivy league school without football...just stating a fact

It's the timing that is the cause for concern. If they had won the NC game, it would be one thing. With the #1 recruiting class (that he and the staff have worked so hard on), on the line, it's a totally different story.

you are under the impression that i care about other sports at ND...to be honest i don't....also swarbick has absolutely nothing to do with the football program's success. that goes completely to coach kelly and the football staff. only smart thing swarbrick did was hire BK.

how does #1 in grad rate and bcs equate to swarbrick doing a good job?? sound like you need to be the one passing

No he's not. Have you been paying attention the last few years?

Um, wow. OK bub.

this school is just an Ivy league school without football...just stating a fact

Even if true, one could do a lot worse.

Wow you're making a great name for yourself on the board.

jack swarbrick(check the spelling) got ND in to the ACC deal. And MAKES THE SCHEDULE FOR THE FOOTBALL TEAM

I'm done arguing

Junkhead, when would be a better time? Before the NCG? nope, after the EE's are in class. Nope because then he would be really screwing them. After signing day. Nope because he would be screwing all the recruits plus there would be no open jobs to interview for. Just saying, there is no good time so I dislike when people talk about timing.

Are you high?

#1 in graduation rate.
#1 in the bcs(for about a month)
Not to mention other sports performing well

Ya that looks like a failure to me.

let me ask you something would you rather jack stay and kelly leave...or the other way around? (rhetorical question, of course we want and like both guys.)
dont let your anger at this flirting with the nfl news blind you to the fact that it is KELLY not Jack who put this football program where it is today.

O noooo! Not "just an Ivy league school"... what a terrible thing to be...

The glory of Notre Dame is that it took a tradition of excellence in football and used that to build excellence into every other aspect of college life. As much as I love the football program, it should never take precedence over the other aspects of ND life.

That being said, not too thrilled with Kelly right now. I feel like he had plenty of leverage to negotiate after this season and he's resorting to the "nuclear option" very very quickly.
