Does anyone actually know if BK actually interviewed with the Eagles?

No.

Even the interview is a rumor. tmzSPN's hype machine made it 'credible'

Considering how busy BK was, I doubt the interview was anything more than a phone call.

I doubt that it was BK that let it out into the public. If you want to interview for leverage, you have to actually show up to the interview. That means a ton of people know about it (not to mention agents) and will use that info for their desired purpose.

The thing is, if BK felt that he couldn't get the things he needed without leverage, then interviewing is his leverage. You cant just tell Jack Swarbick, "I want ____, or I will interview for other jobs", because he will simply call your bluff. BK obviously didn't want there to be anything left to question. Just my $.02.

I doubt Kelly was the one that let it out but he's a smart man and he knows the possible ramifications if it got out. He either didn't take any precautions to reduce the possibility of a leak or he didn't stop it.

You're (dshans) right he can't tell Swarbrick "I want" but giving him a heads up is a professional courtesy and sends the message.

If I'm Swarbrick, I'd take a moment and think: We have a young team with good talent, a strong recruiting class lined up, a coach that may not be as committed as I thought, well maybe I should think thru this a bit.

If it was a non-credible rumor, Kelly or somebody from NDs camp would have released a statement by now.

this is admirable if you ask me.

he's a self made man.

hes not part of any other coaches "tree" like damn near every coach out there. he hasnt rode anyone's coattails to get whrehe got. he is the tree.

downside of this is he has no real mentors/sages to rally advise him as a friend in all this....probabaly just his agent.

Yeah, I agree that it is impressive. And admirable. As I said, it's a unique thing.

And if I remember correctly, it was not just Mort and Schefter reporting this. Glazer did (who was said to said to be a solid information source) and other sports outlets, including Keith Arnold.

Just sayin' that is may not be all smoke and mirrors.

Haha what? Jay Glazer, Chris Mortensen, and Adam Schefter(The Acute Triangle of NFL reporting) all reported they have indeed met. They also reported they will revisit talks when Kelly returns from vacation. Keep hanging out with the head in the sand. This isn't hype, this is a very serious issue.

Doesn't a team have to contact the AD before they contact the coach? BK.was still under contract, so JS would be aware of any interest/interviews prior to him interviewing

I agree with everything you said, but there (dshans) lies the rub. There is no way to interview without people knowing and there may be no way for him to get leverage without the interview. Who knows, he very well may have let Swarbrick know. Maybe that interaction is the basis for the interview in the first place?

The reality is that we just simply don't know.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm simply stating it is an unconfirmed rumor, which it is.

I just recently read an article about Chip Kelly to the Browns a Done Deal by Schefter which is mysteriously gone from ESPN archives.

These guys 'know' the smallest, vague details and release it with a sensationalist spin. It's really sad most of you take these scumbags at face value. If it's accurate, they're super insiders, if they're wrong, it's shrugged off by their employer because of the bogus hysteria they cause.

Haha "very serious business." It's freaking college football. I'm not saying that BK didn't talk to the Eagles, but a word to the wise: don't believe everything you hear from ESPN. They are not objective news gatherers. Their profitability depends on having "news" for sports fans to consume, whether it exists organically or not. Meaning, they WILL invent stuff or play ball with agents with agendas if it will attract eyeballs. ESPN is very profitable.

Kinda off topic, but does anyone remember when Shefter went on ESPN during our coaching search and said that Stoops to ND was a done deal and that he was currently on a plane to sign?

So funny.

Just adding on (and not disagreeing), but how exactly would he get any leverage if Jack didn't know about it? Jack HAS TO know about it. That's part of the deal. I think it's pretty clear that Trace Armstrong "leaked" this, and that that (dshans) was the plan all along.

Really enjoy your optimism. Wish I had more at this time. Glazer, Schefter, and Mortensen are not scumbags. At least, not in my opinion. They're very good at what they do. No one is perfect(as you pointed out with the browns/Kelly story.) But, all three of them and OTHERS are reporting their is MUTUAL interest. Just doesn't sit well with me at all. Once again I enjoy your optimism.

Twitter has flipped the lid on reporting. It is not who is right. It is who is first. A bunch of nobodies trying to be somebody. Kelly is all Irish and we are even better with not having to coddle Alex until he would have transferred. Going to complete the 13 irish mob with some great kids that want to be a part of something greater than themselves .

You guys do realize Jay Glazer doesn't work for ESPN. Also, neither do any of the people at CBS and NFL network that are also reporting mutual interest. I meant "Very Serious" as it attains to all of us being fans of the program. Obviously, much more important issues going on. But this is a Notre Dame Message Board. ND's coach has interest in an NFL head coaching job. How is that not a "Very Serious Issue"

Hate to break it to you, but it was the 24-hour news cycle that did this, not Twitter.

RallySon I agree that ESPN is garbage. Surely they wouldn't just make this **** up. There has to be some validity. The web is full of articles picking the next coach at ND. WTH? Nightmare.

People will write anything regarding something that is 'trending' as hard as this news is. Especially given that without any confirmation, people can keep spouting garbage for readers until something happens.

With the current state of the program and how far Kelly has come in the last 2 years, I truly believe that no news is good news regarding all of this.

If kelly really didnt interview with the eagles, he or the school would of discredited the rumors. If not for the players but for the irish faithful.

LoL maybe I should erase my Eagles icon. The thing is, as an Eagle fan, I would prefer a coach with NFL experience. That seems to be a common thought for most Eagle fans. So look at my dilemma. And NDPhilly's. Though I haven't seen his thoughts on BK as Eagles coach.
