I hope Rocky2820 doesn't mind, but I'm going to copy his post from the 'January 7th BCS National Championship/Alabama' thread:

"It especially sucks that I have an evening meeting that night at work that I just cannot get out of. Trust me I have tried. I'm being told that it could go until midnight. Like many of you I'm sure, I plan my fall Saturdays around the ND game, regardless of who they are playing. So, for this to happen for this game... UGH! Not checking my phone for updates may be my biggest test of willpower ever. My plan is to DVR it and watch it start to finish as soon as I get home. I'm hoping to be able to go without checking for score updates along the way."

This is like walking into your first AA meeting and seeing a topless Miss Universe wop party.

I cannot fathom how hard it would be to shut down all modes of communication and watch the game recorded, knowing that a simple phone check, google search, or 10 seconds of ESPN could tell you that the team you're a diehard fan of has won/lost the national championship. Good luck to Rocky2820 and whoever else is having to do this. I truly admire you if you're able to succeed, and I cannot wait to her how you did it.

Go Irish!!!

I work a lot of nights in my business, but made sure to block that night (and next morning) off as soon as the SC game was final. Rocky, you are a far better man than me for even trying.

Tough, tough stuff. Sorry for you guys that will have to watch the game after the fact. I've had to do that and it sucks. The whole time the game is going on you are stressed out and can't relax. But it is fun to watch the game without commercials later.

I wish they wouldn't put these games on Monday nights. I hate that. I would probably be going to Miami for the game, except I can't take two days off work. Such a bitch.

I am getting ready to begin employment with a Law Enforcement agency. I began the employment process in August. On Tuesday December 18th I had a psychological test at the agency. During the pre-test conversation the hiring coordinator told me my start date would be Monday January 7th. As of yet I haven't been told what shift I'll be assigned to.

Thanks, kuehnja and others. Trust me, I am beside myself about it. Here’s some perspective: I was in high school the last time ND played for the national championship. If it takes just as long to make another one, I’ll be retired by the time that game is played (not that I expect it to take nearly that long). So yes, this absolutely sucks.

I’ll be fine staying offline during the meeting, which starts at 6:00 and I’m told could last until midnight. It’s during any breaks and during my 40-minute ride home that will test my willpower. My iPhone will be right in my pocket the whole time, and my car radio will be right there staring at me the whole ride home. I’m cautiously optimistic I’ll be able to hold out until I get to see it via DVR, which only means I’ll be going through all the same emotions you’ll all have gone through about three hours earlier. Go Irish!

I had to follow a similar prescription for a couple of games this year it is very tough, your will power won't be the problem, it is everyone else that wants to text their opinions or comments to you knowing you are a fan. It is the radio or by-line on a news channel that gives a score. Before meeting begins lay down the ground rules: NO NATTY UPDATES TO ME, if you want to look, keep it to yourself. Be sure to drive home in silence, phone off, and DVR at least 60 min over slotted time so you won't miss Manti doing his HeisManti impression with the Chrystal Ball. Good Luck, Rocky!

Congrats, man. I will be travelling about 2 hours to watch the game with my buddy and his dad. His dad is an ND grad, was one of my midget football coaches(a half a million years ago), and is one of the smartest people I know.

Email your boss back thanking him but letting him know that you're good for the meeting should he reconsider. He's not going to reconsider.

There are other jobs. Seriously, the last time this happened was in 88.

But great news that your boss postponed....it was said that a black sedan left your bosses house late last night. The driver couldn't be identified, but it was said he had great hair.
