Hoping for the best, but why can't his dad just pay for his college? After a couple of games this summer would pay for his 5 years at ND. Save a scholi.

You're disgusting. Really? You want to have this convo now?

His dad can but doesn't have to and shouldn't be expected to. Kid earned his scholarship.

Don't want to have this argument again (wherever the pdiddy section is from last year) but there are other players that come from money even if there parents aren't famous. Are you saying that all rich parents shouldn't accept a scholarship their children have earned? Jr earned the scholly, it has nothing to do with his father.

+1... He's earned his spot should he accept on NSD. To think otherwise is silly.

Salvi earned his too and his dad probably has more money than Robinson and Hunter combined. It's the kid's scholarship, he earned it.

Torii Hunter Jr., Notre Dame Fighting Irish commit, out 6-8 weeks with broken femur - ESPN

Hunter Jr. is expected to miss anywhere from six to eight months with the injury, according to his father. It could take as much as a year for him to fully recover.

Hunter added that he's been in contact with his personal doctors, and they are confident his son will make a complete recovery, with proper rest and rehabilitation.

"All of the doctors are saying he should be fine," Hunter said. "They're saying it's 99 percent [full recovery probability], but it'll take some time."

We were probably gong to redshirt him regardless.

He'll be back.

Yep. The ESPN article I linked made it sound like he was more upset to miss baseball. Still sucks missing a year, even if it's missing scout team time.

This kid is a player. Wish him the best and he'll make some plays on the field for us when he's ready

The injury situation isnt "good."

He's not the only kid in the world to bust a stick... Pretty sure that some of those that have, have made full recovery and been productive ballplayers. Just sayin'

No need to be dramatic...

This too ... No way we pull his scholarship offer when for all we know he will come back better than ever.

You're reading this wrong or maybe I did. What I was saying is that having an injury isnt good, thats all.

Think he absolutely deserves a scholarship. No question.

But we are ND we will Honor his scholarship and let him heal 100%. Then let the beast mode out! Hope he gets feeling better soon.

He wasn't going to be an impact player next year anyways so even if we were an SEC type team we would still want his commitment.

I know he might not have a huge impact on the 2013 season. He is still a very good player and hopefully he recovers 100%. Some schools would still question his scholarship that wont happen here.

I suppose that's true. But IMO, when strictly thinking football and ignoring morality, I want his scholarship. He's a play maker at WR and the based on the recovery time and the fact that he's not an EE, he shouldn't even miss a practice at ND.

you read way too much into my comment...i'm stating it's good that he has a dad that has connections in the medical field to help ensure he has every opportunity to fully recover.

With the kind of treatment and rehab Torii will get and with coach Luongo keeping him as fit as possible during recovery, this will be a setback but in terms of permanent damage it is not as serious as serious tendon/ligament tears. The bone ought to heal 100% and in 10 months he will be as good as new.

I can't believe anyone is bringing up pulling his scholarship, that is just a sleazey move. If an injury were to prevent a kid from ever playing again, then there are provisions within the rules to switch his scholarship to the non-academic type freeing up a football scholarship. But that is not at all likely in Torii's situation, he ought to be good as new after a medical redshirt year.

Actually I think it might get dicey if we knew for a fact right now that he could never play college football. I believe that Oklahoma pulled an offer from a verbally committed 2013 O-lineman this fall after it was determined that he had to give up football ... but last year they honored an incoming 2012 recruit's scholarship when it was determined AFTER signing day that he would have to give up football.

So bottom line: not totally sure whether we could still give him a scholarship if he suffered a career-ending injury today, before signing day, and we knew it was a career-ending injury, but I'd like to think we could.

But again, that is NOT this case; as far as we know Hunter will come back as strong as ever.

EDIT: Matt Beyer and Laith Harlow are the guys I am referring to:
Oklahoma Sooners out, says recruit Matt Beyer, struck with spinal condition - ESPN
