Best I could do this early.

This young man's attitude really seems infectious. I can't wait for him to start doing the all-star game tour. He is gonna out Diaco, Diaco as a recruiting animal. His enthusiasm for ND is already off the charts.

I'm pretty sure I'm the only one on this site that wants him to RS his 1st year. I think Danny has really upped his game, and Ben (who I wanted to start this year and glad he didn't) will be more than enough to handle the outside.
If you remember BK said he thought Manti should have RS'ed. This will save a year of his eligibility and give us an extra year with him.
Just my 2 cents though - flame on.

Players of his caliber generally don't stay for a fifth year, so there's really no point in preserving a year, especially when all indications are that he will be able to contribute almost immediately.

He will contribute immediately...to what degree depends on how quickly he adjusts and how quickly he learns the system. Intincts go a long way when it comes to getting on the field.

i can see romeo moving to the cat or possibly even DL due to our abundance of riches at the dog position...just a thought.

well romeo was only moved to dog to backup councell because of spond's health concerns early in the season, so i think its a given he moves back to CAT

One of the things Kelly does really well is play a lot of kids in the right situations. The benefits in doing that is it keeps them engaged in the process even if they're not playing a lot

This is the first point to be made. Several times when people have talked about the recruiting class of linebackers, Kelly has mentioned he would have love to have red-shirted Te'o. Secondly, from CAT and DOG, they are mirrors of the same thing. They both have to rush, play the run and seal the edge, and cover. The Dog position usually has a little more area, and has a number two WR as well as Tight End to cover. Kelly made it clear that Danny Spond could play well enough that in dime packages he played corner-back; Kelly clearly stated that Romeo was a DOG and that he would be a star. Counsell and Romeo are killing in practice. Hmmmm. Nice problem to have!

He needs a year in the weight room. No offense to Jaylon. The kid will be a stud in time.

I would actually prefer it if most of the kids we get redshirted. Give all of them a chance to adjust to college life and let their bodies mature and take to the conditioning program.

There are a few exceptions...but almost always I feel the same way.
EE's are probably OK to not RS.

The team is in a great position with great starting talent...and the talent in the depth chart is being built upon. This team will be SCARY good if Kelly and Co. keep doing what they are doing.

This guy is just incredible. I hope to see him on the field lots next year. I wonder how much playing time he'll get. Will he maybe beat out Spond?

Literally 10 posts up brah

Danny Spond is a 248 pounder that plays corner-back in the dime scheme. He could be all world at corner at any of the mid-majors. He could loose a little and probably play corner at most places. Oh, and he can massively mess up tight ends on the line and disrupt routes. And one more thing, I only saw one player with the athleticism to punch the ball out of a healthy Denard Robinson's hand's this year, and that was Danny.

Ben Counsel is behind Danny and ready to go. It takes a lot to learn Bobby D's defense at DOG and CAT. And there is Romeo. Don't rush things. Enjoy. We are getting crazy deep. Like three deep could start almost anywhere, (at some positions.) That shiit Kray!

Jaylon seems like he has the presense to be "the guy" on this team. He has Manti-like charisma and infectious enthusiasm. I think he is the absolute perfect addition to the team given Manti's graduation. The timing is ideal.
