No, but it sure helps. Just look at the interest ND is getting. I mean, is happiness all about having money? No, but it makes it a lot easier.

When did I underestimate them? I mean, he's currently committed to USC. They lead.

I'm saying that ND has a better chance than people seem to think. You have his commitment, we have all of the momentum. Never underestimate the big MO.

BTW, tough sell from a coach who's on the hot seat to tell the kid 'you could be part of the puzzle to bring us back to glory. 'Umm, yeah coach, are you even going to be here?'. And if you don't think Kiffen's on a short leash next year, well, I just don't agree.

I don't think we've ever underestimated the draw of Notre Dame for California kids..or from any other part of the country. The mystique has never truly lessened significantly, even when the W/L was heavily in our favor, and against you.

Anyway, good luck. I never meant to come across as if you had no chance with Eddie, because you do. Just think the determining factor will be location.

+1. Ole-freaking-Miss is about to land the #1 recruit in the whole country + Laquon Treadwell. If it was all about winning, that would never happen.

The double-edged sword is that UCLA actually has a coach now... and kids have to be wary of Kiffin. He and Ed O are without a doubt GREAT recruiters and salesmen... but Lane was largely a laughing stock this whole year between all the different shenanigans and petulant episodes. Kids have to wonder how he squandered a pre-season #1 team to completely unranked and under-utilized so much talent.

While a lot of the Cali talent will likely stay at USC, I wouldn't be surprised to see some look at UCLA. And I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the out of state kids look around... although it's pretty clear Ty Isaac sees himself at USC and Kenny Bigelow is... well... we all know about Eastern Christian Academy.

UCLA has never been able to capitalize as the dominant FB program in Los Angeles. I believe they had a run of defeating us 8 straight games, yet where are the National Championships, Rose Bowl wins or conference championships? Who has yet to capitalize on beating USC, on the West Coast? Kids are interested in whoever gets them to the NFL, which USC is #1.

I agree that there are some that will want to play for the local school, but there is only one school that will play on TV every week to a national audience.
Hardly a local kid, I've made the drive and it's at least 9 hours in a car. I believe quickest route is driving to Sacramento for flight to LA. Not that much of a difference from flying to the Mid-West. CAL or Stanford are more local than USC. Imagine driving from Chicago to Georgia boarder.

Correct. Sacramento to LA is roughly 6.5-8 hours depending on LA traffic. Auburn is in the foothills about 45 minutes North East of Sacramento up Interstate 80. Roughly 3 hours by car to Stanford or Cal also.

That said I've made Sacramento to LA runs in 5 hours. But I seriously doubt Eddie's family wants to travel 130 mph in the middle of the night down the I-5 to make good time for game day.

Look, I am from Auburn, CA. It is not exactly warm and sunny Cali that everyone imagines. It does not snow much there, but the winters are in the 40's temperature wise. Also, USC is not, and will never be a local school there. It is almost as close to Oregon as it is USC.

I'll take this as positive news that our staff is getting through to Eddie.

Growing up, kids almost always have a favorite dream school. I'm not sure USC is/was Eddie's dream school, but it'd be easy to understand if it was. Once the time comes to really sit down and figure out the best option, however, the reality in some cases becomes clear that your dream school may not be the best school. That could be a very stressful realization. I think reality is setting in that maybe UCLA or ND (fingers crossed) offers Eddie a better path to success. I hope he's able to sort through the madness, takes his time, and chooses the school that's best for him.

think he's "stressed" now, just wait til he steps on campus and gets that "feeling." ND is a special place EV.

If he stays local he is going to Chico State.

Didn't mean to get everyone worked up! lol Local was a bad choice of words. I was refering to TP's reference of "playing for the local school" since she's refering to USC.

And all this time I thought Auburn was in Alabama.

I would think that's a good sign for us. Looks like we've really hit home with him forcing him to really seriously consider us.

If we're spinning his head and he hasn't even met Brian Kelly, Bob Diaco, or seen our campus, I like where this is going.

I don't want to get too excited yet. It could very well be that UCLA, not ND, is the school that he is agonizing over.

All the things ND said are running through his head, running through his head?

There's no way to tell for sure, but I bet the #1 team in the country, with the #1 graduation rate, who has visited him twice in the past two weeks, and the team he's now planning to visit is the team that has his head spinning. Just a hunch. I'm not a doctor (yet).

Depends on how you look at it. The way I see it, he's not 100% committed to USC. Whether it's us or UCLA, that's huge. Hopefully us though...

Good point. If his head is swimming probably bc he isn't firm with USC, which didn't take a leap to guess but is still an acknowledgment of that. Hopefully this crack opens up the flood gates. Would of been awesome if he could be in South Bend this weekend.

You seem really sure, but he spoke borderline glowingly about his recent OV to UCLA (whereas he has still not finalized plans to OV to ND) and UCLA sent at least four coaches out to his home (which, we've established, is not close to LA) for a visit last week. I really don't think there's any basis for assuming that the tweets refer just to ND when he has demonstrated strong UCLA interest and UCLA is recruiting him just as hard or harder than we are.

But like Piombino said, it is good news that he is wavering, no matter how you look at it.

We should just set up a home base in Cali, directly between Redfield and Vanderdoes house.
