It's weird because he plays my high school Bishop Ready (we are Hartley's biggest rival), and I don't know who to root for my high school or for Matuska because of Notre Dame.

Root for your team to win the game and root fo him to have a good game. Can't go wrong there

Agreed. When I think about how well the staff has done moving guys to certain positions to succeed, Jacob comes to mind. He is going to be a run stuffing DE that will free up a lot of space and tackles for Jaylon and our dream team of linebackers. Jacob reminds me a lot Springmann who is a valuable contributor.

I think this guy is our most under-appreciated recruit. I totally agree with the Springmann comparisons, and that guy has been a rock for us this year. It sounds like Jacob is a little more athletic than Tony.

Just look at him in this ESPN video (that cyrano posted). This just guy looks like a football player. He's first team All-State in Ohio and his reviews are glowing. Just because he is a3-star, I feel like I'm overlooking him a little.

So I wanted to bump his thread. I feel like the staff is thinking that we already have two excellent recruits on the D-line this year, between Isaac and Jacob (very biblical), and are comfortable being picky and going with more of hybrid pass rushers for number 3.

What a class this is shaping up to be!

It's a great disagreement to have, but I think this kid would be such a great TE. I just think he high-points the ball very well for a big man and has excellent hands. He's also a VERY aggressive blocker, but then again that shows the power he could exhibit at DE (where hands are also very important).

That said, with this staff, who knows? They are very creative and patient when it comes to finding the perfect position for a player. Also, I think Longo helps these players grow into their natural position instead of trying to develop them into a specific position.

I expect, like you said, it may take some time for this situation to clarify.

I just think our need is bigger at DE right now. If he can be a good player there, that's where I hope he goes. If Welch can come back healthy we are loaded at TE (per usual).

Like I said in another thread he will play defense, because I said so.

The truth is he will be played where he is needed. This staff recruits versatile players for a reason. I remember wondering what they were going to do with Troy last winter, and he was a TE, as many of us had hoped, by Spring.

Currently I see this kid as a DE, but I agree that he would make a fine TE.

Ya I hear that and agree. Personally I just think he is a JJ Watt type player.

I see him playing TE. Great blocker and a possession kind of kid. College TE's block 90%of the time.

I disagree, I think he redshirts his first year and bulks up. Then he plays the swing position (think Springmann) splitting time between DE and NG.

That's a lot of bulking up to do...at least 50 pounds worth.

I think a lot of it depends on the health of Welch and development of Niklas and Koyak.

Lets look at this a different way. He was 240 or so when this thread was created back in the summer of 2011, 1.5 years ago. It is pretty safe to say that he ways more say 250-260 with still another half a year before he graduates so lets say he can gain 5 good pounds during that 6 months so that takes him to 255-265. Then he gets a full year (redshirting) and extra summer with Longo to put 30-35 pounds on. I would say that Longo with over a year could put that amount of weight on him.

There's only so much weight a guy can put on and still keep his skills. I dont think Matuska has the frame for a NG.

Personally I still wouldn't mind if he flipped to TE.

Scout has him at 265 lbs right now. So say he comes into ND at 270. So I agree I think he can get close or to 300 lbs in year.

KAP was listed at 225 and played this last year at just over 300. IDK that he's an immediate contributor, but he could get to well over 300 in time.

I dont see Matuska seeing the field next year regardless of the position he is placed at. So he could easily be a project that we can afford to bulk up and teach proper technique for a year.

I don't think anyone is expecting him not to redshirt. The sheer difference in talent from Ohio D-IV to FBS is enough to handle, let alone being in the trenches and it's uncommon for those guys not to redshirt in a proper program.

Selected to play in Ohio's North/South Game.

Game has now been split into two games with the upper 3 divisions playing against each other and the lower 3 playing against one another.

Jacob will play in the lower division game since his school is Division 4 out of 6.

Game is in late April in Dayton.

In Ohio, Number 1, means just that.

In # 1 Whitmer took 2nd place, (team that beat Leurs)

In # 2 Toledo Central Catholic won the State. In the last dozen years, four div 2 state champs came from NWO's 2 biggest leagues.

I think Alder is Div 3, as was Fostoria, even when Woodson went there.

Div 4 has had teams like Patrick Henry. Good solid clubs, year after year.
