Come on, you can't honestly believe that Notre Dame wouldn't be selected if they where ranked 12th in the BCS do you?
Actually, if I recall correctly, in 2002 (Ty's first year), we finished the regular season 10-2 and qualified for a BCS bowl, but didn't get picked. We ended up in the Gator Bowl.
So, there ya go. We don't have to believe anything. With a top-12 finish and 2 or fewer losses, ND qualifies for a BCS at-large spot. Same with Oregon, same with every other team in the country. It's just that there's only 2 at-large spots, which means someone's always gonna get left out. In 2002, it was ND. This year, it'll probably be Oregon. (For the record, I think that sucks, because Oregon deserves a BCS spot a helluva lot more than West Virginia, winner of the Big Joke conference.)
See, Steve, that's what's so frustrating about the Oregon fans that have been flocking to this board in the past week. Y'all fly in here and do lots of quacking and squawking and get your feathers all ruffled up, and yet so many of you show such a flimsy grasp on actual facts to back up your case. I mean, we had one guy in here who made the serious claim that Oregon's victory over 6-5 Arizona State counts as "a quality win."
All it takes is a little research. I got my info on the 2002 season in less than 5minutes from
www.nd.edu. It's not that hard.
