Props to Jaylon and his Luers teammates. 4 titles in 4 years. The kids fought through a lot of adversity this year and came out on top.

Bottom line - Jaylon is a winner.

Story about Jaylon. Sounds like you guys were right about the hustle issues. He talks about is how tired he is.

Notre Dame recruit relieved after fourth state title - News-Sentinel.com

Yeah, I like that he was aware of it: “I am now moving forward on focusing on one side of the ball, perfecting my moves and not taking any plays off on defense because of being tired.”

And, I didn't see the play where he hurdled, but if the article is any indication he may have sustained a knee injury had he not hurdled. To be penalized for that is a bit ridiculous. I can rationalize the no hurdling rule, but on a play like this the rule should permit some discretion by the refs.

agree 1000%...let your knee get blown up is what the rules committees have decided to be the fundamental play

I saw the guy Friday night. Echoing others, he looked great as a back, not as much of a factor on defense. Seemed like he just got to a lot of plays late on defense.

On offense, though, he looked great. They rarely stopped him for fewer than four yards, and often it was more. He's tall and strong and athletic, really the best athlete on the field on offense. The hurdle play was evidence of this -- the guy went in low -- it wasn't dirty, just your typical, CB goes in low and sudden to bring down the bigger guy -- and he went up and over.

He looks like he can bulk up a little, but he is strong, coordinated guy. I can see why they are excited to get him.

This is an elite athlete who has had to work extra hard for his team and is a bit exhausted at season's end. Jaylon will be a great All-American linebacker for us, and probably will get one super year of learning helped by Danny Spond. This whole thing is set up for greatness for Jaylon.

Want to make a point that most of those highlights came on key third and longs or 4th downs. He is clutch and a winner...you can see it when he plays. He has something that clicks when he knows the game is on the line and he just becomes superman...unstoppable. It's been very fun watching him play this season. Truly a Notre Dame man! (you all notice the PLACT gloves and ND gear he was rocking in that highlight tape)? Loves the Irish

Jaylon carried Luers to the championship. I'm fine with the less stellar defensive numbers, because I'm more impressed with the leadership that he displayed this season. That goes a longer ways than sacks, tackles, etc...

Jaylon is gonna be a work horse for Diaco, I expect to see greatness out of Jaylon.

I buy this.

Plus, I note that when he says he'd like to be Mr Football for Indiana, he says it in the context of wanting to bring accalim to his city of Fort Wayne (the city never had a Mr F winner before) and that he thinks he deserves it as a "student athlete." To me, those are the right notes of confidence, seriousness, loyalty to his roots, and recognition of the importance of education. I like the guy; ND is lucky to get him, and he's lucky to get ND -- a good match.

Let me premise by saying I don't think this is where he'd be best, but I have day dreams of him and Redfield at safety together. They would be gridiron demons in the 2ndary.

I only watched that start of the game, but it was apparent at the beginning the team was running most of their plays away from Jaylon. He had energy at the beginning, so it had to be the load he carried wore him down toward the end.

Longo will take care of getting him bigger. Isn't he an EE?

I'm sure it's way to early to tell and no one would have anything but speculation, but would there be a reason to move him to safety over staying at the LB position? We are obvioulsy in need of a dynamic player to replace Teo, now I know they won't be playing the same position, but needless to say we're going to need a stud or two to replace Teo.

Thoughts?

Teams have been doing that all year. Even Matuska said his team would double team Jaylon AND go to the opposite side of the field. Jaylon's lack of numbers wasnt from a lack of production, is was from a lack of chances.

not true...kids graduate early from Luers if they have met all their academic requirements

I am pretty sure he said in the interview after he committed to us, that His principle and school will not be allowing him to EE. THey are encouraging enjoying life as a senior in highschool.

Or the fact the they were playing in LOS with the roof closed. The air is so thin in there compared to outside that it feels like playing with a surgical mask on. When we went to state in 2008 everybody on that team was almost too tired to stand afterwards because of the air being soo thin. Even Eifert and Springmann were gassed, so its definitely not a lack of conditioning.

The building has fresh air intakes from the outside that are used to circulate the air into the building, so i'm not sure how the air could be thinner given it is not at a different elevation, and I highly doubt LOS has equipment that is removing oxygen from the air that is brought in by the intakes. Maybe its a psychological effect due to the vast openess of the stadium? I really think Jaylon was just tired from playing both ways, especially running the ball as hard as he did.

That's exactly what he's said, but in reality it's not the school holding him back from graduating early... gotta complete your high school career just like everyone else. Luers won't LET him leave early because that would mean leaving required credits and classes behind.

it'd be pretty asinine of his school to make that decision for him, in my opinion
