It was made in jest. I had plenty of heart attacks to say I want to just put this game in the rear view mirror. One of those things that was ugly but turned pretty and do not want to talk about it. haha

All in fun.

Ugly's in the eye of the beholder. ND dominated the stats with +200 yds Total O.

ND ran 40 more plays than PIT.

PIT was 1-14 or so in 3rd down conversions. ND converted 50%

ND was +12 minutes in TOP.

ND had balance in Run/Pass 48 plays/53; 229yds/291

PIT's O was essentially 3 or 4 plays.

1 Graham's 55 yd run was made by Spond caught out of postion playing outside when the play was inside. BUT Russell ran him down. How long has it been since ND ran down a RB that broke free. Russell was also on the far side of the field.

2. Graham's TD run was due to Farley not wrapping up the tackle. Kelly noted in the Post Game that Farley had surgey on his hand on Tuesday. They put two plates in his hand. With a deep secondary in another year, Farley would not have played. ND has a young secondary without much depth. Farley was game. The spirit was willing; the flesh was indeed weak.

3. Their big TE had a lumbering run on a pass over the middle where two OLs leveled Manti.

4. Their big TE had a TD on a well executed play.

ND had a number of players in the hospital this past week which hurt. Unfortunately the -3 Turnovers can't be blamed on the flu. Golson acknowleded his INT was a bad throw not a bad read. Rees INT was thrown in the teeth of a bullrush via a Golic matador pass. Wood's fumble was in the goal line pile up.

We lost two scores plus probably a third one that was set by Wood's 60 yd run that was called back.

In either of Kelly's first two years, -3 turnovers was a losing game. This year we won. You may call it ugly, I'll call it resolve, resiliency, intestinal fortitude. Despite the illnesses, surgery, missed XP, turnovers, and missed tackles, this team found a way to win. That's a mark of a good team.

According to the majority of the posters in the game day thread by their posts, he was understating how badly ND was playing.

ND's 3 turnovers were the difference in the game. Wood's and Rees's T.O. were forced errors. Golson's was a self described "bad throw" BUT in each case PIT made the play at the other end, meanwhile they didn't turn it over.

In all seriousness, you were a complete embarrassment today. I wish you would leave the site. The things you said were inexcusable.

My bad. Pretty hammered. Hope I can get a pass and get some forgiveness.

Ehhh...again, sorry. Drunk posting is never a good idea. Again, I apologize

Did anyone else see where Louis smacked Pitt's TE in the head after a play? If I remember it was after a 3rd down play and a penalty would've given them a first down and pssibly the game. I think it was in OT. Got lucky there in that the refs didn't even see it!

Never said it wasn't the mark of a good football team. It wasn't pretty and yes very much as you described but it was still ugly to me. Too many turnovers, too many penalties, a ghost PI call, and a missed 33 yard FG by the PITT kicker when it would have marked game over. Sometimes it's better to be lucky then good. I get it. I acknowledge it.

I saw the box score but it also doesn't tell the whole story IMO.

Looking back on the game it I am also surprised we didnt see much uptempo offense until beign down by 2 scores late in the game. I thought a high volume of plays had been run in practice during the week, indicating the offense would be up-tempo, but it looked "usual" tempo to me.

Agreed.

It started calling Farley a P.O.S for not wrapping on a tackle. Farley has surgery on his hand on Tuesday. In another season with more depth he would not have played. With all the injuries this secondary has had, he answered the bell and played to the best of his abiliites. The comment was crude, rude, and ignorant.

When other posters commented to desist with the player trashing (there were others) he responded with ad hominem attacks on them.

ND's players are not the Cowboys, the Bears, or the Yankees. They're are student athletes one of which played after surgery this week, several who played after hospital stays for the flu. They don't make $25 million a year.

And Pat you're not entitled to call a kid a P.O.S. If you can't control your anger, unplug your keyboard. Everytime you attack a kid's character or hurl an ad hominem at those asking you to stop. I will neg rep you.

Critique the play, don't trash the kid.

Got it. Again, I apologize. I'll stay away during the games. After reading the posts, I was outta line.

Too many beers and too passionate about the Irish in a bad way.

Sorry fellas

Get tired of me saying this team has"it", but they do. As much as BYU was a trap game this was an even bigger trap game. I had told my son that this game worried me after such a big win last week. Pitt has been playing better and they had a solid veteran QB leading them. They knew they had nothing to lose so they were lose and played an almost perfect game while we came out flat and made mistakes over and over. Until the fourth quarter I thought the Pitt coaching staff had out coached us.

This team showered the heart of a champion and just kept fighting then turned up the heat on defense. The missed FG by Pitt. Can you say Luck of the Irish?
