Practically every Big Ten I have talked with (Not a pen state fan) wants ND to take Pen State's place in the Big 10.

(Note, not my opinion for ND to join, just an observation)

wont happen. With the new playoff allowing Notre Dame access, Notre Dame will remain independent in football. Though their Olympic sports may decide to move conferences...

Wow. Didn't see that coming. I think a bunch will split soon after the season ends.

I am not surprised by Jones jumping ship at all.

But yes...there will be some more for sure...and their scholarships don't get cut to 65 til the 2014-2017 seasons. It's not gonna be pretty.

My teacher knows Adam Breneman High School coach. Back in the 90s the coach had a player name Corey Jones who went to PSU. For his recruitment the coach and Joe Paterno had a huge Italian Dinner. Paterno had a license plate that said PSU Yanks. About a decade later this coach had Chad Henne as his qb. Henne was gonna go to Penn State decided to go to Michigan. At a Big 33 Dinner the coach's mom and Joe had a conversation. The mom asked Joe why dont you talk to my son and Joe says he hurt me. They interview the coach at the PSU Michigan game on national tv. They asked him why Henne goes to Michigan he said they had the best qb coach in the nation and wore Michigan Gear which pissed off Joe. The coach was the President of the PA Football Coaches Association. After Henne made his decision Joe wouldn't let the coach inside the football clinics.

I heard most of that story. You included some details that I was unfamiliar with. The coach's last name is Cantafio. He is from NEPA. He was pretty much blacklisted from PSU after Henne went to Michigan. Maybe Paterno should've put more effort into recruiting players himself instead of just expecting high school coaches to deliver them to him. Thanks Golden.

Wasn't there a player from State College that Paterno refused to recruit who all but begged him for a scholarship. Paterno wouldn't give it to him and he ended up going to somewhere else and being an AA.
I know he refused to recruit central PA because those kids should want to go to PSU.

My teacher was the coach at Bishop McDevitt in 1995. Coached a ND WR name Raki Nelson. They won the State Title in 1995. Anyway, the day of the eastern finals. The team had a spaghetti dinner. 19 starters dont show up. And the coach suspended 19 starters for one quarter. They barely win the game. Joe Paterno sent him a postcard that said “Hi Four. This was sent to me. I know you don't need it. But I want you know, I admire your handling of this. – Joe”

Sandusky sentenced to 30-60 years in prison - CBSSports.com

October 9, 2012 10:25 am

Jerry Sandusky was sentenced Tuesday to at least 30 years in prisoneffectively a life sentence — in the child sexual abuse scandal that brought shame to Penn State and led to coach Joe Paterno's downfall.

A defiant Sandusky gave a rambling statement in which he denied the allegations and talked about his life in prison and the pain of being away from his family.

Three victims spoke, often fighting back tears. One looked Sandusky in the eyes at times during his statement.

The 68-year-old former Penn State assistant coach was found guilty in June of 45 counts of child sexual abuse, convicted of molesting 10 boys over a 15-year period. Witnesses said Sandusky used the charitable organization that he founded for troubled children as his personal hunting ground to find and groom boys to become his victims.

May he rot in hell

Earlier one of the sports sites had a headline, "He'll Die In Jail". When I went back to link it, it was changed to something like "Sandusky Sentenced To Like".

I liked the original headline better.

I'm hoping he has a long, long life - behind bars.

He wont be in general population. He wont go anywhere without escort and will probably be in his cell 23 hours a day. It will actually be pretty miserable, but not as bad as most of us would want.

Just dropped Franco Harris off at LAX after we confronted NCAA Pres about PSU sanctions. Police were called & Emmert ran away out back door.

The Governor should worry about the important things. He cut over $1 billion from public education funding and is letting the natural gas companies run wild in the northern part of the state.

Brotha, I knew it wouldn't take you long to jump on this one.

And as a Pennsylvania educator, I am 100% with you. Just interesting given his role as Attorney General when the Sandusky investigation commenced. Isn't Linda Kelly, the new AG, investigated his handling of the situation from that time?

This is a waste of time and money. Corbett is just trying to himself reelected and needs the support of many Penn State alums, fans and voters.

Wow, check this out. The state of Pennsylvania, not Penn State, is apparently filing a lawsuit against the NCAA.

Sources: State of Pennsylvania to file lawsuit against NCAA - College Football - Pete Thamel - SI.com

I didn't follow the NCAA's position of authority in a criminal matter much less the magnitude of the fine. The Freeh Report does not strike me as "evidence" compared to what will come out in the President, A.D., et. al. trials. That's where the will be the bulk of institutional control issues will be nailed down under oath rather than hearsay.

On the other hand, I don't understand the State's standing in a matter which PSU accepted as an administrative procedure under the terms of their membership in the NCAA when PSU didn't appeal.

But then I never understood the Governor's lack of action when he was in the AG's office and was in a position to do something about Sandusky years ago.
