I'm thinking some of you are overacting to his play at the moment.
He isn't third. Koyack and Niklas or 2a and 2b. Niklas is just the better blocker at this point.I wonder if Niklas switching positions and quickly passing Koyack on the depth chart has impacted young Ben. Think about it: last year it was possible that Eifert would leave for the draft, leaving Koyack a near shoe-in for the starting TE position in 2012. Now, he's third on the depth chart.
Still 9 (or 10) games to go...

IMO you will see a huge difference in his game after Eifert leaves... bank on it... Koyack is more of a receiving TE then blocker but because Eifert plays that role Koyack is used blocking more. I think once Eifert leaves been will fill the role of receiving TE and flourish...
That's what I was trying to say earlier. Well put.IMO you will see a huge difference in his game after Eifert leaves... bank on it... It took him to years as a starter to be an average blocking TE.I'd hate to have a tight end (good receiver or not) that can't block. Eifert is known for his pass-catching ability, but he's a hell of a blocker as well.

He's a decent blocker in space (flanked out). It's well known Eifert struggles with in-line blocking.

This is simply not true
How isn't it? There is not one time that i can remember since Eifert got here that i heard praise from the coaching staff about his brilliant in-line blocking ability. He has struggled and still struggles. He isn't the type of TE to hold down the point of attack. He is an over-sized WR. Thats why we can block so well in space.
Right. Kelly stated explicitly that Niklas was moved to TE because the team needed a capable in-line blocker at that position. Eifert is not that guy, and neither is Koyack.
So on Saturday night at MSU on a crucial fourth down decision, Kelly decides to run the ball to Eifert's side even though he doesn't think Eifert is a a 'capable' in-line blocker? That makes sense

Not to mention him running onto the field as the ball was being snapped on the first play of the game.
Geez, so snippy. "Capable" was not a great word choice -- mine, not Kelly's. I don't mean to suggest, and I am not saying that Kelly suggested, that Eifert is a totally inept in-line blocker -- but Kelly did say that Niklas was moved to TE to give us better in-line blocking at the position. I can't remember at exactly which press conference Kelly said it or I'd point you to the transcript. As for Saturday night, I don't remember the play you are talking about but I doubt Kelly ran the play because of Eifert's blocking. I think most people agree that he is not a great in-line blocker.
Plus that's the coaches screw up, not the kids.Don't mention it, because Troy was the one who ran on, # 85.

1 block makes him a super star at blocking.... $hit son, even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally...
Listen it's easy you are defending a player with opinion while some of us are stating with facts man...
What? You are making your argument based on opinion, same as him. What "facts" are you using? Come on man, you can't rip someone for making the same style argument as you simply on the other side of the fence. We are allowed differeing opinions - it makes for good conversation - but be realistic.
