Yeah, I get it; some teams like to start the year off with a few easy games before conference games but there is a limit to everything.
Bama 41, Michigan 14 (jokingly stated, I just wanted to throw a jab at UM)
Okla. State 84, Savannah State 0
Florida State 69, Murray State 3

What does that prove? Okla. State was up 35-0 at the end of the first quarter. I hope 2nd and 3rd string were playing from that point on.
I thought Kelly did the right thing by pulling Golson in the 3rd quarter and getting Hendrix and Cam some playing time.

My friend that is an FSU alum posted on FB that she was proud of the Noles for their win. Really? Proud that you beat Murray State?

Of course I can't say anything since FSU beat ND last year. :/

I would be embarrassed if I were an FSU fan. They opened at home with FCS school Murray State and next week they host another FCS school in Savannah State...yes the same Savannah State that Oklahoma State just beat 84-0. Come on Florida State, the ACC is no SEC. I hope they drop significantly in the polls after the first 2 weeks no matter how many points they put up.

IMO FSU only plays 2 games they have a chance to lose (@VT and home against Clemson)...scheduled their way to a BCS game.

Although I hate the fact that conference schools feast on cupcakes for the first week or two of their season with a few more sprinkled in (see what I did? Sprinkes? Cupcakes?) throughout their conference schedule, it would be nice to have a guaranteed win or two every year, so that Navy isn't our easiest game.

I would much rather earn wins over an institution like Navy instead of buying a win from some lowly FCS team. Savannah State was 1-11 last yr. while Murray St. was a little more respectable at 7-4 and a tough showing against Louisville. How can any BCS school be "proud" of embarrassing another school like that.

What i don't understand is why do these teams play them? Is losing 84-0 really worth getting your schools name mentioned? Isn't it a negative advertisement to tell people you are going to be destroyed one or two games a year?

I like that an FCS team at least gets a chance to play a vastly superior team. It makes for great stories when David triumphs over Goliath like Youngstown St. over Pitt yesterday or Appalachian over meatchicken a few yrs ago. Also a shout out to my Alma Mater Indiana State for giving Indiana all they could ask for last night.

It is a great money maker for a lot of these FCS schools and a lot of times it funds every other sport on their campus which is great.

But any BCS school that brags about beating an FCS by 40 plus is moronic. That is what you are expected to do.

Yeah, like KPENN said, they make a lot off those games

Don't forget Houston losing to Texas State in their (Texas State's) first game in the FBS by 20. Hope Greenberry had fun.

I have an idea for all of these "tune up games"; If a team like Oklahoma State wants to schedule, say, Savannah State... the NCAA will ask Vegas for an initial odds on the game. If the initial odds come back at more than 35 points......... then the game can be scheduled, but only if Goliath travels to David's home field. Watch how many top teams will start scheduling schools much closer to their talent level, rather than give up a home game.

I don't think a win versus a non-Div I opponent should count and be factored in for a team in polls and rankings (yes, including BCS standings). Ok St. will stop scheduling Savannah St if this happens. Florida St. won't schedule them...AND Murray St.

Just checked the box score and noticed that Greenberry didn't make a catch. Anybody know if he is hurt or if he is just buried on the depth chart? Just curious as to why a 5 star player doesn't see the field at a school like Houston.

He had 2 passes thrown to him that I saw from the box score. The first was a slant on the first pass of the game and the other was on a deep pass.

I read in Phil Steele's that FSU originally had West Virginia scheduled for next week but changed it after WV left the Big East. So they picked a school that has had a losing record 10 out of the last 12 years. WEAK. That doesn't make any sense! Does anybody know the whole story?

WVU pulled out due to scheduling issues after moving into the BIG 12. But lets be honest I'm sure F$U could have found another opponent that wasn't FCS and/or at least a better FCS team. In their defense they did have to fill the game on less than a year notice.

I have said it in a past thread. The NCAA should go back to the rule of only playing one FCS team every 4 years. And if you do play more than one in that span they do not count towards your bowl eligibility. It is sickening that F$U is being talked about as a national championship contender while getting to beat up on two FCS teams.

I don't get why D1 teams are allow to play 1-AA teams AT ALL? There are plenty of schools in each division, you should not be allowed to play outside if your division - That is why divisions exist!

So true. Or if you do play a FCS, it doesn't count. I also like the idea of getting to play one every four years. Finally, if you have to play them, don't prison rape them. That's not cool! 84-0 is not good for anybody.

yup, MONEY. Even schools like Ball State (MAC) get a nice paycheck from playing schools like Clemson....

Although, national attention is a plus as well. remember, these FCS schools have to recruit as well, I am sure some coaches talk about playing D1 schools as part of their sales pitch.

I think we might have to start up a meme like in Kingpin:

" I mean, who wants to pull a Greenberry?"
"yo bro, you want to think about that a little more. You dont want to pull a Greenberry..."
"Ah, the next Greenberry"

too soon?

What gets me is that it seems like 8 guys caught at least one ball for Houston Saturday and Deontay was not one of them.. How does this kid go to Houston and not start day 1? I don't know if there is any other reason for it though (injury, academics etc.).
