Another safety named Brown has an offer from ND.

Sergio Brown of Proviso East in Maywood, IL has an offer in hand from ND. His two favorites are Illinois and Notre Dame. Runs a consistent 4.4 and was clocked at 4.2 a few times. He's 6-1, 194 and has offers from Iowa, Nebraska and UCLA as well.

Brown is happy to have an offer and won't even take an official visit since he's already seen Notre Dame and the place speaks for itself. He was on campus June 25th.

"I didn't see a lot but what I saw was nice. I talked to some of the coaches. I like the DB coach (Bill Lewis) a lot. We sat down and talked about coverages. They run a similar defense as my high school so I should fit in well."

He is on my list of guys to see live this fall.

Notre Dame, welcome back to recruiting in Chicago! You've been missed.

How good is this guy. A lot of people seem to be excited that ND's one of his top two teams. According to Rivals.com (I know rivals is "not the bible) he's not a four star prospect.
GO IRISH!

Well Weis and company must see something in him to give him an offer. I think its way to early for them to start handing out offers to their lower tiered prospects. I think charlie knows football players...and remember the team that wins most is usually not the team that has the best players, but the best team of players.

Scout.com rates him about the same.

6-1, 194 and a 4.4? Impressive.

Give Weis "3-star" athletes and see what happens. How many Pro Bowl guys did they have in New England? What is the real difference between a 3 and 4 star guy? A four and five? Get them in the right system and it's go time.

I'm waiting to see him in person. Proviso East is not a football program (Michael Finley and Steven Hunter of NBA fame went there), so I will guess he is going to stand out regardless of how good he really is.

There have been a ton of 5* guys who have been busts! Give me a 3* guy with heart any day over a 5* guy who wants his position handed to him any day.

Bruce brings up a great point.

If a guy fits, he fits. Look at Alex Smith. His job in high school was to hand off to Reggie Bush.

Smith became a millionaire first.

Brown has narrowed his list down to three:

Notre Dame
Illinois
Nebraska

Everyone else appears to be out of the mix, including UCLA and Minnesota. I'm starting to hear that this will be an ND-Illinois horserace.

Let's keep our fingers crossed. This kid seems like he could be a good one. I agree with all of you. A 3* with our previous 2 HC's would not have been pushed to greatness. I believe that this coaching staff will push our boys to great things and not accept mediocrity.

yeah, Parish was a 5 star recruit, if Weis and Co like any kid....they can play. Remember what Weis has said...the objective is to win as fast as possible.

He's going to play right away at ND or Illinois.

So far, Weis and Zook are both doing a very good job up here and around Illinois. Should be interesting.

Latest from S. Brown:

"Notre Dame, Illinois, Nebraska, UCLA, and Minnesota – those are my top schools really – and Northwestern," said Brown.

He said that two of those schools are standing out with their recruiting efforts.

"Right now, Illinois and Notre Dame," said Brown. "They send the most letters and show the most love and stuff. They text message me and act like they really want me as part of their program."

did he really say Northwestern?

lol anyways you'd think he would choose ND. I know he'll start early at both Illinois and ND but I think ND's better year will seal the deal

Ron Zook is having an impact in Chicago. Weis had the big splash with Demetrius Jones, but Zook is gobbling up the talent not only in the Windy City but all over our fair state.

Brown seems like the type of kid, to me anyway, that might end up at Illinois. We'll see how it ends up, though.

If the kid has any sense he'll choose ND over Illinois. I'm sorry, but I think Zook is a horrible coach.

Florida had a very bad draft this year, no first rounders, first time in a long time. Heck I don't think they had anyone drafted in the second round either. Channing Crowder, ILB was selected in the third round, he was the first Florida player taken. I thought Mack Brown was bad at wasting talent. Zook can bring in the talent, but he sure as hell can't develop it.

That bad draft year was Spurrier's recruits. Part of the reason Spurrier bailed out of the Swamp was the diminishing talent in his cupboard and his diminished interest in pursuing recruits.

i can't decide whether or not i think zook was a good coach in a bad fit at florida...i know that he's picking up a lot of talent in illinois, but i just don't see somebody walking in there and winning right away. they've been a doormat for years. that makes me wonder if zook will be able to sustain such a high level of recruitment if he has a couple mediocre years...

They were just in the Sugar Bowl not more than five years ago, but they've sucked since Kurt Kittner left.

I'll say this, if he can keep the Illinois talent in state he's got half the battle won. Illinois lets everyone get away, especially last year. He's already off to a great start. No, he won't be able to win right away because he doesn't have the talent. I think Florida was a horrible fit because it was too high profile, he replaced a legend and he had never been a head coach before.

None of these apply with Illinois.

Anyway, Brown is down to ND, Illinois and Nebraska according to today's Chicago Tribune.

Brown had a good visit for the MSU game as well.

"I always talk to Demetrius Jones and I talked to James Aldridge and the kicker (Ryan Burkhart)," Brown said. "They are a nice group of guys. The thought (of committing) crossed my mind but I have to think about it a little more. I'm still going to take visits and then I'll decide."

I hope this doesn’t go where I’m thinking it will.
