Strange to see such a large disparity between the ratings for Rivals and 247.

Okay I think I figured it out.

He was supposed to be in 2013, had poor academics and was slated to stay an extra year, making him a 2014 recruit.

Since then he as taken special measures and is back on track to graduate with the 2013 class, so he is a 2013 recruit.

I think

FSU 247 reporter said he thinks he would be a Top100 2013 recruit.

His HS is across the highway from the Citrus Bowl not exactly in a good part of town... but very well could have been at last year's bowl game.

He seems to have figured out that academics are an important part of life. Hopefully it sticks and he gets some looks from the Irish.

Not to be redundant here, but a 97 on 247 is sniffing his 5th :s:, no? Yet he's only a 3:s: on Rivals. Who's got it right? I can't recall another recruit with such polarized rankings.

My first thought was that Rivals had lazily defaulted him to a 3:s:, mistakenly thinking that it'd have another year to rank him properly. But Rivals has him (correctly) listed as a 2013 recruit, while 247 has him listed as a 2014 recruit.

I'm so confused...

Yes. A 98 rating on 247 will give you a 5th star.

If he went to the academic measures to get his GPA to 3.2 and he said his ACT is good seems to me he cares enough about football to do the work academically

Thing is he is currently going to and got his grades up at an alternative high school, not a regular high school.

Agreed. The kid obviously had little regard for academics, trouble deciphering the best way for himself to learn, and/or no help in any of these areas, when it seems pretty obvious he needed some. The light bulb has finally turned on and he was obviously smart enough to figure it out before it was too late. More than can be said for a lot of high school kids these days, let alone college kids who blow off classes and screw their grades up while on full scholarship.

I know it's hard for some to believe but some at-risk kids have a lot more going on in their lives growing up than football and high school class work.

I, for one, hope this kid gets a shot somewhere (hopefully a major university), whether it be ND or otherwise. Hopefully he gets to college and not only prospers as a football player, but as a student and a man.

Which is a fair point, but the education he is getting at the alternative school may be on par with or even better than he could get at his public school. That's something we can't really quantify or deduce due to our unfamiliarity with the specific alternative and public schools in question.

Alternative schools are usually marked with lower student/teacher ratios, diverse curricula, incorporation of life skills into everyday learning, alternative learning methods, and strong mentor programs.

Having past experience working with alternative schools and at risk children, I've come to realize that with the right kind of kid they can achieve a strong education and work ethic when it comes to academia. Which allows them to have a much better chance at future education than filling in the right 'A, B, C, or D' on a scan-tron sheet.

I have always been one who believes once you figure out how to learn, the learning never stops. Unfortunately for some people learning is not as easy as it is for others. The right alternative schools are great for the development of these people who may struggle in a traditional 'retain and regurgitate' school.

This is true also...we are all speculating here...I guess if he is really interested in Notre Dame, then we will all find out what ND admissions says. Hope he has some foreign language classes.

Yep, the pitfall of many a highly touted recruit.
