That's Designated For Assignment for the those not into baseballspeak. If Lidge is not claimed off waivers or traded within the next 10 days, he could accept an assignment to the minors or become a free agent.

Nationals designate Brad Lidge for assignment - CBSSports.com

Lidge failed twice against the Yankees this weekend during NY's sweep. In both games it wasn't a single pitch that did him in. He gave up mulitiple runs in less than an inning in both games. Since returning from the DL he's only had one good outing in 4 appearances over the past 8 days. He had one clean inning against Toronto. He gave up a run, a hit and a BB in 1/3 of an inning against Boston. He gave up 3 runs, 1 hit and 2 BBs in a 1/3 of an inning Friday night and 2 runs, 3 hits and 2 BBs in 2/3 of an inning Saturday in the 14 inning game. His ERA since coming off the DL is 23.14. For the year he's pitched 9.1 innings in 11 appearances, 0-1, with 2 saves in 4 opportunities allowing 12 hits, 10 BBs and 10 Ks.

He has 225 career saves and has spent part of each of the past 5 years in the minors for both Houston and the Phillies. Durability has been an issue as well as skills deterioration. Maybe he'll bounce back yet. Then again at 35 it may be time to dust off that ND diploma.

I'll be forever grateful for what he did for the Phillies in 2008.

He can get it back... but yeah, he's blown multiple games for us so far this year and the other relievers the Nats have are just too talented to leave him up.

When Henry Rodriguez and Drew Storen get off the DL we will have the nastiest pitching in all of baseball. The hitting is still quite below average though.
