Young vs. Hickman

Today was a big test for Sam Young the freshman OLman. I see that he was getting help from time to time, but I think he did a "respectable" job considering the task at hand. However, IMO this line still has not jelled. I don't see the holes opening up for Walker like last year, and I see alot more draws which I think makes up for the lack of being physical on the line. Your thoughts?

as ive stated sam isnt the problem as cw has stated many times sam is playing very respectable considering but hickman is a beast what did he have 10 sacks half way through when i look at the names of this oline i cant for the life of me understand why they arent playing well shocked

Every game this year, I have been very impressed by big Sam Young. Today, I think he got taken to school by Hickman. Young got beat consistently...but to be honest so did every other offensive lineman. I think Young will bounce back and will be solid (or spectacular) for the rest of the year. I don't think there is a freshman in the country who hasn't had one bad game.

I don't know most people on this board, would say Young was a 5 star and Hickman was a 3 star so clearly Young should dominate him....

This is gonna be a great line in about two years. Sam will be the leader. Every week I like this kid even more.

Young is a true freshman...it's only his 7th game at the NEXT level. Hickman has played in big games against big time teams. He's a Senior right?

Maybe, just maybe Hickman was a bit underrated too?

Compare him to Abiamiri... Who is the true 5 star?

Eh, I'd say a lot of it depends on this year's OL recruiting class. We really need to bring in Romine and Miller. We would've been helped a lot had we gotten James Wilson, too...not to mention Oglesby.

Without a strong haul this year our O-Line development will be stuck in neutral.. too little depth and not enough talent. Early indications of the class of 2006 are great, though.

toungue and cheek my freind, I'm that one that at nauseam defends WVU for having players that were underated and are now better than most 5 stars. Stars coming out of high school mean a lot but people on this board make way too much of it.

it is easy for those guys on WVU's team to look like 9 star players when you play teams that can't compete with high school teams

O you mean like what two freshman three star players did against 11 4 and 5 star players in the BCS bowl last year? You are right I guess Ga, the SEC champ, was high school...

Seven games into the '06 season and you still have to go back to last season to try and justify this year's WVU team?

You make his point.

Advantage - Dannyboy Ayers!

I'm not going to sit here and defend WVU becuase I don't think their defense is good enough to go undefeated and play the likes of OSU. But I'm telling you one thing anybody that doesn't see that Pat White and Steve Slaton and Owen Shmidt and Dan Mozes and Darius Reynard and co. are legitimate 5 or 4 star players are just blind. People on this board put way to much emphasis on rankings out of high school. I prefer to watch a kid play at this level and determine what he should be ranked rather than what some pundit said after his junior year in high school.
