Winter Olympics 2010!

Wow, so I had no idea Vancouver was so freaking breath taking! I, of course, being a snowboarder would love to hit up the king of all resorts at Whistler, but Vancouver never seemed the epitome of winter sports until now...

I dwelt in Mountain Green, Utah when the Salt Lake City, Utah of 2002 winter olympics came to town. Snipers were scowling the peaks of Snow Basin and repeaters were placed up on Mount Ogden for help with communication.

Vonn has to be bullcrapping around her injury. Why hasn't she showed the cameras her terrible bruises? If I had been called out for an injury I would at least bust out a bruise or something.

The opening ceremony chick was hot! Damn she could sing too.

So whats everyone's favorite winter event? I dig Apollo and the short track DRAMA! Anyone recall the blocking Korean? We sure could have used him backing up big Olsen this last year.

Was up there a few years ago and it is beautiful, especially when you fly in and you fly right over Mt. Rainier to land at the airport. Really a beautiful city, it's a nice place to go for skiing or snowboarding.

On a more serious note, what a terrible thing to happen to a young kid with the world ahead of him. I read somewhere Georgia pulled out altogether from the games.

OK. Tired of this Olympic coverage and "getting to know each other" stuff. By the way, it is 8:58 left coast time as I post this. Times I post and times I see on many of my posts seem to have a 4 hour diff. I was watching fishing shows when I first posted here.


EDIT: Either I'm watching a replay, or the left coast is getting the show much later. Any left coasters help me out?

Those fishing shows were cool. They caught some big ugly fish.

Back to the coverage, I like when a Canadian committee person was asked if they were intimidated by following the Chinese show of the last Olympics. He essentially said he was excited to show we am who we am. Cool stuff.

They showed it? Damn, that's crazy. I only saw still photos on ESPN this morning, and if anyone is known for NOT having integrity, it's ESPN.

As for the Winter Olympics, I just can't get into it. Probably because the only time I see snow is when I go to South Bend; but I just can't get into it. Not hating on it at all, and I still root for the Americans to win everything, I'm just not familiar with the sports I guess...

Read about it on MSN homepage as soon as the article was posted shortly after the incident. Didn't see the video until a few minutes ago. Nothing anyone could do. Seems to me design of the track should have included retaining walls, but that's hindsight.

I learned how to board at Ski Apache. I have since hit many a great slope... Some near your neck of the woods around Lake Tahoe. I spent six years of my life as a seasonal wildland firefighter on hotshot and helicopter rappel crews...

I can't wait to see some real ice hockey!

I regret ever having seen the film clips. This has to be right up there with the Daniel Pearl beheading, The kid having just stopped there on the spot with so much speed so abruptly. He had no chance against the imoveable object.

If you want some excitement, watch the short track speed skating 5000M relay final tonight. It is insane!!! It is kind of like roller derby - just total mayhem! The hockey games today are going to be fun too.

Some of the snow-cross events have been fun too. Motocross on snowboards and skis. I am a total Olympics junkie. I watch it all. I have tried to understand and appreciate curling, but I just can't get in to it. Biathalon is great too. "Let's take about 50 guys that are cross country skiing and give them all guns!" "Yeah, that's awesome!" Have them ski, then shoot, then ski some more.

But, seriously, watch the speed skating relay tonight.

The short track 500m will be sweet and we gotta hope for Ohno. The 5000m relay is nuts.

It looks like we have another for sure metal with men's hockey, let's hope for gold!
