Will Notre Dame ever join a conference such as the Big10. If they did they would not just have a tough conference schedule but their non conference would be great to( vs USC and BC)

The Big Ten would be the logical choice but it's not going to happen, nor would I like to see it happen.

I don't care if that would ever happen. we would still play usc. Plus 3 of our rivals our in the conference so i wouldnt care. we would also be able to shut those OSUcks fans up. its not like it is going to happen any way within the next 10 years if it ever happens

If ND joined a conference, any conference, college football wouldn't be the same for anyone. Everyone knows ND, and all the "haters" love to bring up the lack of a conference. If ND joined a conference, they would have nothing to scream about, and MArk May would be out of a job. All the ND haters love to bring it up, but if ND joined a conference, they would likely give up the TV contract adn some of the added incintives, and ESPN etc. would have to report real news and debate logically sound arguments, and that is just too hard for them.

As long as ND continues to play a tough regular season schedule, meaning, as long as it is in the top 20 by seasons end, there would be no logical argument for ND to go to a conference. Considering the fact that ND is a "national" school, it is best for them, and college footbal in general, to stay an independent school. Nd does not need a conference, the only real benefit of joining a conference is for monetary support year in and year out, and, in reality, ND does not need support financially.

I hope not. I really, really hope not.

and ND tried to join the Big 10, or whatever number it was then, way back, but they didn't want any Catholics in their conference. so why would we want to join them now? and yes, I do hold grudges for a very long time.

I don't think they will nor do I think they should unless BCS rules force them to. If they do join one I would want it to be the Big Ten, not the Big East. They could still prserve most of their rivalries with no problem in the Big Ten, and they would still have four other game to play with if the NCAA keeps the 12 game schedule. 1 of the 4 would go to USC, another would go to Navy, and that leaves the last two spots to scedule any different variety of schools.

If they did I think this would be a good divisional allignment for the new 12 team Big Ten. It would kep most rivalries within their divisions with a few exceptions where they're could be locked-in games such as UGA/Auburn or Tenn./Bama in the SEC.

Div.1:
Ohio State
Michigan
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Illinois
Northwestern

Div.2:
Notre Dame
Penn State
Iowa
Michigan St.
Purdue
Indiana

I don't see it happening any time soon, if ever. ND pride itself on being a national team - their appeal is somewhat regional now, and it would be even more regionalized if we joined a conference.

ND also prides itself on a tough schedule, and no matter what the naysayers claim on ESPN, our schedule would be weakened a lot of years if we joined a conference. Imagine how weak it would be if we added N'western, Illinois, and Minnesota to our schedule every year.

Personally I don't think we should ever join a conference, once we get the talent in here we can basically write our own ticket to a BCS game ever year and the very least. We play USC, Michigan, Michigan St., Purdue and Navy every year. Thats 5 games we are "locked" into, leaving us the distinct advantage of scheduling 7 other games pretty much anyway we like. Why would we join a conference anyway, the TV deal gives us as much money as any conference tie in, we get to keep all our own bowl money, and we basically have the Non-BCS conference rules as eligibilty to a BCS bowl game but the luxury of the prestige of a traditional BCS conference school, we have the best of both worlds. Why would we give that up?Look at Penn St., what have they done since they joined the Big 10? Not much, probably had the worst 10 year stretch since JoePa has been there.

For reasons of tradition, there is no way ND football will join a conference unless we start to suck so bad that it's the only financially viable thing to do. And I have trouble seeing that happening ...

I think as long as ND has their NBC contract there will be no conference in the future. Even if NBC drops the contract for whatever unknown reason another channel should jump on the opportunity. I don't think we will have to worry about joining a conference for some time even though it will be brought up every year.

There has been talk that Fox might try to outbid NBC the next time the TV Contract is up.

That would be strange wathcing ND on Fox but who knows it could happen. Fox has a ton of money and arent afraid to spend it.

I don't see them joining a conference, they by themselves have the same power as a major conference. When it comes down to it the BCS need ND, more than ND needs them.

Amen brother! That's what I tell all my ND hating buds. They begged to get in the Big 10 back in the day & their elitist asses said 'Hell no'. Next thing you know, "Ole Jed's a millionairre". Paybacks are hell. That little Catholic institution in South Bend doesn't look all that small now does it, Big 10? You like apples...

On a side note, I remember reading that Woody Hayes never wanted to play ND in regular season b/c most of OHIO were either OSU fans or ND fans. He didn't want to reduce his chances on getting recruits by risking yearly losses to "The Church". Go IRISH.:clover:

NO!NO!NO! they make more money than any other school for football and they don't have to share it with bad teams in a conference. If they get a BCS bid they can keep the money. Also they get on tv without one so why do they need one.

I don't think ND would drop NBC for Fox. The president of NBC is a graduate of ND and his two sons went to ND, or at least, one did but the other was killed in a plane crash, or something.
