Why so much negativity?

It seems that most posts I've seen thus far in the season, everyone is extremely negative about the season ND has been having. We went through the month of september, the hardest part of our schedule, with a record of 4-1. Most posts before the beginning of the year said they would be happy if we made it through the month with only 1 loss. Why is everyone so negative right now?

i think it has to do with expectations and honestly the team isnt playing to its potential while i agree that thier is to much negativity and alot of players have been thrown under a bus i think its just the nd fans have a lot of pride and for me love nd unlike a football team and more like a family so when your family is mucking up you get a little testy goooooooooooooo irish

it's just expectations (the highest I know)..........

the MI loss brought back bad memories of the fiesta bowl last year. if it was a closer game, we could at least be saying "what if...." scenarios.

all the other power schools are winning out and our guys are just not performing (to what we expect). whether it's talent, coaches, hype or whatever, ND should be playing better because we believe they can. When they don't, we are let down and the media reminds us every 5-minutes of all the negatives.

My Opinion of why everybody is so negative and mad (including me) is we are just so sick and tired of years of mediocre at best !!! I Miss , We miss the GREAT feared Notre Dame of the Late 80's, Early 90's. Bob Davie drove our institution and our pride into the F$%^ing ground , And Finally When It Looks Like We Might Begin our Climb Back into Greatness by winning a National Tittle , (Which We are not completely out of yet) , Our team has some the Greatest combined players in a long long time , but they are not coming close to there talent . So Now The NC is a bunch of IF's and next years team is a rebuilding team , and its back to the "WeWonSixGames.com Bowl" ! I am a Die Hard Fan ,everybody that knows me thinks I'm Crazy and Obsessed , I have the Lep and the ND tatooed on my arms , My dog's official name was Notre Dame but called him N.D. for short . I am Loyal and Die Hard , I told My family I want to be Buried in A Notre Dame Jersey . I support my team even when they lose (Michigan) and even when they lose often - (Davie, Willingham) , I LOVE NOTRE DAME , I count down from seasons end to the kickofff - 215 days I tell people, I'm just tired of being mad , tired of being sad . But If for some reason we never wake up the Echoes , i will never chose another team , I will always support the Irish !!!
The Future looks good Right Now , but how far is the Future away ? We are doing good on recruiting but if we start to slip again we will start to lose that again too. I really apoligize to everyone for being mad or negative ! I'm just frustrated , 18 years of frustration . But I still love The University of Notre Dame and everything connected with our Irish family !
Lets Go IRISH !!!!!

well said bw...we all know that feeling. We expect no dang it we demand that our team reach certain levels...Why else would the instution itself profess "We are Notre Dame". We get tired of hearing the excuses...we can't recruite because of academics or whatever meriad of excuses...it is time to show our stuff...not next year or the year after or the ....now!! We hear one week we have good players then the next week we don't and it will get better when charlies guys take over...this is year two we look horrible...we are one of the most inconsistent teams out there...hey atleast were number 1 at something...it seems the only teams to do anything at our Beloved Notre Dame are our women....snapper university yeahhhhhhhhh!

Sometimes it just feels like no matter what ND does it's never enough, should the Irish win out, and pull off a victory in the BCS championship game, people will say they didn't go undefeated, or they lucked out. Nothings ever good enough. I'm sick of it. BQ played one bad half of football, 2 of his 4 pics aren't his fault, we watch every throw with a microscope. It amazes me that everyone follows the rule of not talking trash about recruits because their just kids, but yet people rag on our team all the time. There 18-23 year old kids playing a game. Relax.
If we won 63-0 people would still find something to bitch about!
I'm done following these stupid posts on Irish Envy.com

We all want ND football to return to the glory years. Don't you think the players and coaches want the same thing?

Like it or not, the preseason hype was NOT realistic. With the exception of too many penalties, this team is over-achieving given the talent. Not that the talent is bad, it isn't, but it is clearly uneven and needs upgrading. ( I hate to point to specific areas; we all know where they are. These kids are getting too much criticism for doing their best already.)

We have a freshman class with tremendous talent. The recruits for next year appear to be at least as good, if not even better. Unfortunately, these 2 classes are going to have to contribute immediately and that is not good. We are 2-3 years away from being a REAL force and a team that will legitimately have a chance to win a National Championship.

For now, enjoy the Fightin' Irish for what they are--a team that is trying hard, fighting every game, and making the best use of their talent. A team we can be proud of. Don't criticize this team for what they are not and realistically cannot be.

I just love the Irish and I am so glad that I can watch every saturday feeling we can win the ballgame on that particular saturday. During the Davies and Willingham era I did not have that feeling. We are dealing with 18-23 yr old kids who r going to make mistakes! We also play a tough as hell schedule year in year out against schools with scholarship players like us (maybe just not as smart)! Basically what I'm saying is ND will win more games than they will lose. We will not win every game of every year so chill out and enjoy just knowing ND has a chance to win every game they play! GO IRISH!

People are negative because they are frustrated. Almost everyone, myself included, bought into the hype. That's our mistake for believing rather naively, that a program Ty drove into the ground could win a NC after just one year of real development.

We're frustrated because we know we'll have to wait another 2-3 years.. problem is, we've been waiting 2-3 years for the last 8-10 years.

But this time we're on our way to something big. We just have to wait :(

Expectations should be high. Notre Dame is an elite program with alot of history. It is this reason that attracted many of us to begin with. I live in Southern California, but have been an Irish fan for as long as I can remember. With all the talent (prospects) available for the Irish to build on...it should be with the expectation that we may not get all the great ones and prepare to build with the really good ones. Let Charlie and his staff mold the ones who want to come here in the fashion of past acheivers...This Keeps Me POSITIVE!

There is a huge difference between having high expectations and unrealistic expections.

I just want to see a receiver covered. Just once. I'd like to see a safety come over and make a big pick on coverage...just once.

And the first man to the point of attack misses the tackle more often than not.

The Offense looked like they got their crap together. Now the D needs to step up.

Michael Richardson has come a long way from two years ago. To me, he is the best player on the starting defense.

The number one goal for this year's defense was to eliminate the big plays they allow. One month into the season, five games, I'd say they're not where they want to be in regards to that goal.

This defense is nowhere near where it should be, but help is on the way. Speed, size and overall talent are on the way.

I was impressed by Ferrine and Lambert for the most part. Ferrine was attacking to the point where he was in the opponents jock.

When they did manage to make a play, they got called for interference. Both times I thought the calls were quesionable.

Walls is a true freshmen. He is going to look like one at times regardless of how good he is.

How about this Purdue tight end? Didn't hear much from him all day and he was supposed to be their guy.

I thought they did a good job on Dorien Bryant, but the Lyman guy murdered them.

Whoever Michael Richardson was covering didn't see the ball too much.

They still give up too many big plays and anyone in the top ten would pound them. They are ranked where they belong and have a long way to go.

I do want to say that, although ND has not looked as impressive on the field, some of the dissapointment may be because of misleading perceptions. For instance, we all understand the secondary is not where we would like it to be. However, ND has played some teams with very good receivers and qbs. That includes Michigan, Perdue, and Michigan St. The biggest dissapointment might actually be the O-Line, for they have the experience. Not depth yet, but experience, with two of the O-line on the watchlists for pre-season accolades.

The biggest dissapointment might actually be the O-Line,

300 lb starters: 0
Freshman starters: 1

Stevenson and LeVoir were big losses.

I thought they did very well against Purdue as a unit. That Anthony Specner kid is a monster.
