Why so much hate already?

This is the front page on MSNBC Sports College Football section. Just brimming with hate for BQ and Notre Dame. I don't understand why this guy is so bitter. I know that it is in vogue again to bash ND because they are relevant, but come on at least wait until September.

Check it out and flame accordingly: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11263597/

Wow, not only did he take shots at Brady, but at us ND fans who didn't go to ND. Sorry dude I came from a middle class family in the south, going to ND wasn't an option. But I don't need some pen pushing sports writer telling me who I can cheer for!

I think it has less to do with envy and more to do with readership. How many more readers do these idiot columnists get when they say something controversial about ND? Just look at how guys on this site respond..."I can't believe they..." and we go and read the article...just the attention they were going for. They don't care about ND either way, just the readership. And because ND is the most popular program in the nation, it gets the broadest response for these kinds of articles. Just look at what the "ND is racist" article did...made some no-name chump into a national celebrity basically. It's sad, but it's the way they make their living.

Its also evident that this assface didnt do any research before he wrote this "article" . He doesnt know Mcknight is coming back and we still have John Carlson, along with others, at TE. He makes it sound like we are only going ot get worse next year, but honestly given another year for Weis and his staff to implement more aspects of his system, i feel really good about our chances at beating Michigan and USC. Penn State lost some serious playmakers due to the draft and graduation, so it is going to be hard for them to manipulate last season.

This is the correct answer. There have been so many favorable articles about BQ that another one isn't going to turn any heads. All of these guys are paid on the readers they can attract. An article like this one will generate a lot of response. The proof of this is in the number of posts that have been made on this site. We are exactly the response this ass was trying to get.

1. The Irish have to replace three offensive linemen.
2. Penn State, Michigan and USC.
3. The Irish will struggle to cover on defense. Sure, speed has been injected, but it's still young speed. And young speed makes mistakes.
4. Who will be the yin to Jeff Samardzija's yang? Maurice Stovall? Gone. Anthony Fasano? Gone.

ok last i checked ND only loses 2 offensive linemen not 3. we actually will only have to fill one spot because we rotated sully and morton. Not to mention we brought in the number one offensive linemen class in the country bar none.

Penn State loses a ton of players and we play them early in the season, Michigan hasn't won in South Bend since 94', and USC lost alot also, and we almost beat them this season with all the talent they had.

Pass coverage can only get better, Wooden and Richardson made big strides this year, next seaon they could be a solid group, you can never underestimate experience on the college level.

Rhema Mcknight comes back, he may be more valueable than Stovall was because he can open up the field more, and is a better athlete. The loss of Fasano won't be much of a blow for us IMO, Carlson looks like the real deal, and Weis seems to love his game.

This guy really needs to do his homework before he writes such an article.

EASSSSYYY Tom Dienhart...Take a deep long breath...Maybe you and Lee(0-6) Corso should go and do lunch. Dare we forget, that last year we were doomed, now with almost everyone returning, some depth, and a little more time to learn a system, is there any reason not to have high expectations? Guys like Tom Dienhart speak this way because all there life they were the kids who sucked at sports, so all they could do is talk about something they know not. I do however suspect that his Boilerfakers will do a lot better...maybe this year they will only lose by 3 TD's

I can see this wimp getting the sand kicked in his face and ordering the weightlifting course to become a he-man. He's the "puke"

Chill, guys... he took some shots at Matt Leinart too, and also mentioned his belief that Brady Quinn is better than Vince Young. Overall, I don't think he's really venting at Notre Dame so much as he's venting at the sports media's tendency to overhype people LIKE Brady Quinn and Matt Leinart.

We've all seen true ND-hate. This pales in comparison.

I get what he's saying here.

How many times did you hear about Matt Leinart last year? I know everything there is to know about him because the sports media saturated us with so many stories about him

Quinn will be the guy in 2006. I"m sure the coverage will be extended far beyond reason. And so what? He'll be on every magazine cover this fall and all the preview books.

What he does on the field is all that matters. 3 losses doesn't get you a Heisman.

agreed. he's obviously no fan of ND, but he's really just expressing his disgust at the annually annointed golden boys of college football. it's good to have one playing for ND again.

This same company also published that Brian Urlacher was the most overrated player in the NFL about two years ago (Dec. 13, 2004 actually). So, they've been wrong before.

Why nothing that pmsnbc does suprises me; I'm just happy to see ND's relevance in the media world again. While it's obvious this journalist has no love loss for ND we he even had anything to write about ND football just a couple years ago. The only new articales we got to read about Irish football the last few years is how times had changed and ND would never be an elite program again, and how it was not the coaches to blame. I think Charlie will prove them all wrong!

Just walk softly (and confidently quiet) and carry a BIG-ASS-NASTY stick.

It will all sort itself out on the field and I feel confident in our generals.

When ND sucked at football (most of the last decade), all I heard was how it's fashionable to kick the Irish when they're down.
Now it's fashionable to kick them when they're on top.
Only one conclusion: it's always fashionable to kick ND!

Did you notice (or were you blinded by indignation?) right under the offending story that started this string, two links to something called "Notre Dame Central"? An entire section of the site devoted to ND football. Note that there's no USC Central, no Ohio State Central... But that's no surprise--it's msNBC.com afterall, the internet adjunct to the network that owns you.

Maybe you could be more like real men and a few hits in stride, take the good with the bad, instead of wetting your panties everytime you take someone takes a shot at ND. It goes with the turf, get over it, get a life.

I"m sick of talking about this already.

Defense, defense, defense. All the Golden Boy Quarterbacks in the world won't win you jack.

Oh, I'm a real man. I just have no idea what indignation means. That's a hell of a Webster's fifty cent special there. Rep points for you.

Very true. Envy does that to people.

Well, they pay us, don't they? That doesn't mean they own us. It means we provide a product they see value in. I am sure that the University of Michigan, USC, or OSU would have jumped at a similar opportunity, but for some reason, NBC didn't think them to be as good an option.

Maybe you could be more like real men and a few hits in stride, take the good with the bad, instead of wetting your panties everytime you take someone takes a shot at ND. It goes with the turf, get over it, get a life.

Most of us do exactly that. That doesn't mean that we can't legitimately raise questions about an article that makes weak arguments based on erroneous assumptions. That's not "wetting your panties" but calling out weak arguments for what they are. I'm sure that you would do the same if you felt that Michigan was unfairly discussed in an article, or a post on a fan forum.

HUM...didn't know that NBC owned us......Don't see that in GE's annual report (FYI, Maison Bleu....GE owns NBC).

Jigga, you are correct. scUM will be very relevant, if only for a Saturday in September.

Also Maison Bleu, I seem to remember some bottles/garbage being thrown on the field at the ND/scUM game last year, when scUM students, how should I say, "wet their panties" when calls on the field were CORRECTLY overturned and then whined, bitched and moaned afterward, about that game and about having to play ND in general.

So, as someone said, "It goes with the turf, get over it, get a life."

I don't see much difference between the original article by Tom Dienhart and posters such as Maison blue, Trojan Bill and others. There main goal is to knock Notre Dame, but they have little to offer in the way of constructive criticism or rationale. Its nice to have intelligent discussions, but bring something to the table besides envy and bitterness. The networks may not have a USC Central, UM Central or OSU Central, but they do have their fan websites. Shouldn't you be spending your time there??????????????????????
